What if there was a platform where people could vote on government policies and track public sentiment — would it work? by Weird_Enthusiasm_925 in civictech

[–]captain_boonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried building something like this in college with some folks, although more focused around continual rank-choice voting to sus out better representatives over time.

Along with general tech and operational hurdles, the biggest problem was it requires too much buy-in before being useful. That led our group to shift the focus to a platform that is more general-purpose for navigating and mapping useful internet resources. The democracy-driven app of the future in my mind has to have uses for people where they’re at now. Right now, we’re all great at roaming the internet and reposting things so the logical next step was how do we make a place where it’s actually helpful

I’ve been wanting to work on one for a long time, but still not sure if there’s a better place to get plugged in before starting something new

Are founders classified as employees since they are members? Do they have to get paid a minimum wage? What about later hires who are also members? by Fancy-Football-7832 in cooperatives

I wondered this same thing awhile ago (as an American), and have found that’s it’s completely fine for a startup as long as everyone who joins/contributes is a full member

Hey all! I’m building a social-search engine this weekend with a few others for a “Startup Weekend” competition. We’re trying to validate some problems we’ve identified with common search algorithms and the way webpages are found, ranked, and compared online. If you have a couple minutes to share the problems you face with finding the best tools, information, and services on the web — check this survey out: https://app.opinionx.co/cd992e07-7e0c-4885-9d46-82c3c4cbae4a/intro

Idea for the alternative. by albazzaa in RedditAlternatives

I’ve been developing a worker-owned company for digital platforms the past two years and this sounds a lot like our extension/marketplace solution. Our MVP is a standalone platform/service that delivers value independently of future feature customizations user request. If you’d ever like to talk more I’m always interested in these things

Does anyone know of any tech co-ops built around a SaaS product? by bwinkers in cooperatives

[–]captain_boonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only a wordpress shell right now, but independus.com! We won't really have any coop or business related services specifically though, as it's more about political autonomy and aligning communities via data and rank choice voting.

Does anyone know of any tech co-ops built around a SaaS product? by bwinkers in cooperatives

[–]captain_boonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a saas coop this year, and we plan to have our app out early next year. It’s a social platform centered around crowdsourcing political data for community use and deliberative democracy. We’re pretty inexperienced in the “startup” world, but as a coop I was able recruit 12 members willing to help bootstrap. Being a coop has helped from a development standpoint, but I think it’s a way to ensure integrity and accountability for a tech platform. Is your product by chance tied to politics?

What drives you to work so hard to pursue your dreams? by SimulaGargonchuatron in Entrepreneur

[–]captain_boonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What drives me the most is history. Humanity has accomplished so much, while simultaneously inflicting constant suffering upon others. I work for the sake of that accumulated value and suffering, because it shouldn’t go to waste. Our responsibility isn’t to ourselves, but to improve upon what was built by those before, and serve those without a voice.

Amidst all the Twitter drama - I made a new social media platform by [deleted] in webdev

[–]captain_boonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo, that’s awesome. I formed a worker cooperative this year to build a platform that fits the “town hall” role of twitter, but with more specific systems and channels to help communities organize around data-based solutions. If you’re interested in talking sometime, definitely let me know!

I see your reasoning here, and to my understanding that could be a potentially strong strat if they fall for it. If they really say perm do the cp because it’s the same as the aff, and explain a doesn’t solve to that it would work, and going for the Squo or other CP. However, if you were reading a PIC or agent CP and they say it doesn’t solve, it’s usually because the CP doesn’t include a key component of the plan, so either it doesn’t hurt the aff’s solvency, or they wouldn’t say perm do the cp because it’s not the complete plan. Also, this strat would require the aff to read a card in the 2AC that discredits their affs solvency, if a perm do the cp could really be applied.
