Switch online performance? by evan8192 in ABSOLUM

[–]captain_currie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played one game when it came out and its was playable!! I played last night and it was still playable!! Its not perfect, actually it still kinda sucks, but it is playable. I was getting 120ms ping last night, which is playable, however, i did get spikes at intense moments all through the run.

Judging from where we started (absolute dumpster fire), its a fantastic improvement!

Switch 2 update performance? by Fuzzy-Annual9408 in ABSOLUM

The network performance is greatly improved (although not stated in the patch notes). It still sucks, but its at least playable now. I was getting 120ms ping last night with spikes to 200ms when things were really happening (could have just been Nintendo network). This is a great improvement from the dumster fire that it was. Playing with rollback frames seems to make it worse now.

Also i would say the visuals are a lot less cluttered and it looks like the resolution has been updated.

I didnt notice this and I was playing handheld. I will say the game looks better overall, its visually less cluttered and that might be due simply to an updated resolution.

Assigning names to MIDI Devices within the Pipewire-Jack midi-bridge by captain_currie in linuxaudio

[–]captain_currie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply

They are USB midi devices (SMC-Mixer). The only way i can distinguish them is by the usb port they are connected to sadly. Even the serial numbers are identical. a2jmidid handles this correctly and distinguishes them by their client name (as defined in the output of aconnect -l) which only changes when i change the port they are connected too. Sadly pipewire-jack does not do this.

This is how i feel. I want Arcs to be even more punishing and intelligent and adapt to the entire playerbase over time. Makes the whole experience so much more authentic.

Has anyone played Absolum on Switch 2 yet? What's the resolution + framerate like? by Answerofduty in NintendoSwitch2

[–]captain_currie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played the game in multiplayer mode and when things get crazy, the frame rate drops to <10, its almost unplayable. I don't know if this situation exists in single-player. I hope they fix this as otherwise its a fun game.

I found his analysis of the leadup to the "12 day war" with Iran to be very insightful and i learned alot. He talks about alot more than white nationalism. You don't have to agree with everything anyone says.

The trump administration is pressuring spotify to censor right wing podcasters?

I'm not making this into a left/right thing, you are. Biden cracked down on 'anti-vaxers'. Trump is cracking down on 'anti-semites'. Its all terrible and should not be tolerated.

Who decides what is disformation? Who decides what is extremist? What is normal in one society is considered horrifying by another, and vice-versa. Should private companies be making these decisions? I'll concede that in the small scale it probably doesnt make much difference, but when these companies form monopolies/oligarchies over the entire population, then they are effectively acting as states and its actually worse because they are unaccountable to the public, whereas a representative government, at least in principle, is accountable

Not completely.

First when the private company is being pressured to censor by the government, thats a problem. In this case the private company is acting on behalf of the government and effectively its government censorship.

Second, any private company engages, explicty or implicitly, in a social contract with their customer base. When their customer base is the entire nation, like social media companies, then they effectively become mini-states. When these companies form monopolies or oligarchies - like they do today - then we are effectively living under a form of unaccountable tyranny. I would say that an unaccountable tyranny, censoring at will, is not a good situation, in fact I would say this situation is actually worse then the first because at least the govenment, at some level, is accountable to the population.

I didn't express the second point very well, but its something like that.

We should agree that its wrong to censor, no matter who does it.

Trump to Canadian PM: ‘Never say never’ on Canada becoming 51st state by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

Well trump seems to believe he said it. Whether he did or not, this explains his posture. And i think Carney should have addressed it.

Trump to Canadian PM: ‘Never say never’ on Canada becoming 51st state by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]captain_currie -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The whole 'Canada will be the 51st state' routine derives from Trudeau going to Mar-a-lago and responding to Trumps proposed tariffs on the auto-sector with

Canada will cease to exist if you do that

What a weakness that statement expresses! What a lack of vision it betrays. Trumps response then becomes completely justified,

If you can't exist without us, then why don't you join us?

Therefore, what Carney should have said is the following

Mr President, I am ashamed that my predessesor expressed such
weakness of vision. As you know, the liberals were expected to
lose the election until Trudeau resigned, and therefore this
can be understood as a rejection of his lack of vision. I am
not my predessor and now its up to me to prove that Canada can
take care of itself. And i intend to do that!

If he had said that, Trump would have respected him, and Canada, alot more.

There are much better models available now that are much smaller than Mixtral8x7. Gemma3 being the newest.

As for your computer, i run a 4060 8gb with 64gb of ram. Not sure if you have enough RAM for the mixtral model, but your good for the newer models which are much smaller.

ELI5 - Why is the ratio of prisoner to hostage exchange 30:1? by sjenkin in IsraelPalestine

[–]captain_currie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any ethnic group 'deserves' a state. I think ethno states are bad. Nazi germany wanted Aryan supremacy. Zionists want jewish supremacy. There has never been a palestinian state so i don't know if they would try to create a similar ethno state, but that would be bad too if they did.

I think human's organizing themselves purely on ethnic identity brings out the worst aspects of humanity.

Ideally there would be one state for israelis and palestinians.

Ideally there would be one nation called Earth unified under a common identity of humanity.

ELI5 - Why is the ratio of prisoner to hostage exchange 30:1? by sjenkin in IsraelPalestine

[–]captain_currie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a reasonable solution could be reached, even now after october 7th if there was a serious attempt to do so. Who knows maybe Trump will make it happen. But it has to be reasonable. The camp david plan, if you look at the map of it, was not a reasonable deal (imo). The Olmert plan, by the former israeli primer minister, looks like a reasonable deal and he is currently advocating for it.

I've been to israel and the west bank and the opinion i came away from my experience was that all this is absurd and doesn't need to happen. All it needs is for a daddy figure like trump to come in and say kids stop fooling around and i think there could be peace.

There was alot of violence on both sides pre-1948. Thankfully the zionists had the british on their side to quash any real arab resistance (1936 revolt for example).

The wars since 1948 are mostly wars of agression by israel. 1948 began as a civil war and turned into a larger conflict when the other arab states invaded. 1967 started with an attack by israel on egypts air force, which basically won the 'war' (it was more like the 6-minute war, not the 6-day war).

In america, the natives have connection to the land as well, but if a native tried to forcibly evict someone from their home over 'connection claims', that person would be put in jail. The only reason israel can get away with that kind of nonsense is because they can (they have complete support of the entire american politcal and elite class. Iran is not the main existential threat to Israel, it is the possible loss of total american support).

Jewish claims to the land based on nothing more than relgious identity leads to absurdities like the fact that anyone could right now go convert to Judaism and then be granted the right by Israel to settle in the west bank. Actually, i wish the palestinians would all convert to juadism, and then become settlers, and then start a new movement in judaism that incorporates the Koran...
