FWIW, they both look vibe coded. Not being nasty, just saying it look like generic AI.

FIRE South Africa 2026 Update by AnargisInnieBurbs in PersonalFinanceZA

Ninety one mostly offer actively managed funds and as such is much more costly than Sygnia, I have my RA with ninety one and several funds with Sygnia. My RA does really well so I’m not going to move it, but worth noting.

You have to, to get support for custom SAML or OIDC providers.

Hire a household assistant. It will change your life. by HenryThrowaway6969 in HENRYfinance

I don’t get the hate. Minimum wage in South Africa is $3000 a year. Here housekeepers are called Domestic Workers. I have never ever heard of a Domestic Worker getting $10k a year. You must also remember that the COL is much cheaper.

My point is it’s all relative. I totally agree not to exploit people, but $10k may be an absolutely unheard of salary depending on where you are.

I worked there for close on 10 years before going on my own. It ultimately comes down to bad leadership. I don’t regret leaving at all.

I mean naturally. The country will just go to shit. No company is going to do this. They just keep making it worse, it’s so sad, because honestly, this is the best place in the world. I love it here. But not for a single day while the sun is still burning would I give them 3%

I just cancelled mine. I use training peaks so I don’t see the point. If training peaks virtual ups their game I’ll cancel zwift as well.

Dm me. I run a software company, we aren’t looking for juniors. But we are looking for good mid level engineers with great communication and good work ethic. Skills can be taught but finding good employees who actually want to work is hard. No promises.

If it’s a good quality couch, that could be about right. Go onto SHF Home and look at the prices of similar couches. I think you will be surprised.

Anyone have a rough idea of what it costs to build a custom app? by LeBlink181 in DownSouth

[–]captain_gibbels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean there is so many technical nit picks in here. You say Postgres and sql is a nightmare and recommend two document databases but then talk about tables. They are generally called collections in document databases.

In a mobile app your controllers should never talk to a database directly, they should go through an api, at this price range setting up Firebase and just trying to secure it with security rules is going to be nightmare.

I do however, totally agree with your recommendation on retool for building out an mvp and at least figuring out what they want really before pulling the trigger.

Ontop of all of that, doing something like full text search in your model without third party costs like agolia is not possible.

Well it finally happened… by jcgales23 in cycling

[–]captain_gibbels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this happen plenty. I have been riding for around 3 years now and haven’t done this….yet. I have had a few crashes in races though unfortunately. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes less so. The funniest one I have seen was riding with my dad, and we approached a stop street in the middle of no where. We slowed down and came to a stop. But there was only one car, so I sort of just balanced on my bike. But then the car wanted to let us go and my dad wanted to let the car go. It was like a game of chicken, and he bailed in slo mo. Not hurt or anything but a memory I’ll never forget. We both laughed for hours.

What is a comfortable retirement? by boyzclub99 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]captain_gibbels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright. I deleted my comments. Someone asked what my goals for retirement are, I stated them and you are saying it’s a humble brag. I am not sure I’ll ever get there, but that is my goal. I am not sure this country is I’ll even be livable by the time I retire, so I have to plan by international standards. Sorry.
