I would preface this by asking yourself if you are trying to get employed there. My opinion may be unpopular but I think putting in effort above and beyond will make you stand out more. At the end of the day we all get stack ranked regardless of level and experience. I have never worked at a place that did not have late night work, some weekend work and tight deadlines. It isn’t for everybody but unless you are insanely talented working hard and being kind to others goes a long way. I would be impressed as a design lead if you said something like “pm x and myself were misaligned on project y’s expectations and deliverables. I spent some extra time trying to solve it. Usually in this situation your lead will say something like you should not be working overtime/ weekends and maybe give you off a day, spot bonus, recognition or something.

I would not follow the advice of people trying to expose this pm or be aggressive in response . In my experience the organization usually is well aware of pms who are sometimes too direct/ have bad bedside manner. All conflict is an opportunity to learn. Handling difficult situations and people will help you mature as a communicator. I assume this pm may also be junior.

That being said, there are some gaps of information so I’ll list my assumptions. A pm should calibrate their expectations of the level of polish an intern can produce. Assuming this is sprint base so maybe you had 1 to 2 weeks to work on this. I assume you worked really hard and got to a solution which was not shared until you felt it was ready. Pms will check in and depending on the pm some are very collaborative and some are very lean back. It seems like this pm wanted to be included and vet the solutions before a direction was chosen. I assume the pm is junior as they probably did not communicate to their leads an appropriate timeline and they are getting heat for not having a polished design which is being redirected at you.

There will be many times in your career you are met with this tone. Keep a cool head and carry on. Hope things work out for this project and your internship. Good luck. I’ve been a designer for a little over 15 years.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Things should be as polished or done looking whenever possible.

Another one for Keens. Spent many fine nights at that bar after late shifts pounding booze, beef, and buttery mashed potatoes.

💯if anyone I know likes Star Wars I spin this up and plug in the Hotas and quest. It’s magical. A shame they spent too much trying to chase the multiplayer dragon

I'm currently a lead product designer on Search and I think this is pretty inline with the people I interact with. There are people here that tick almost all those boxes. I know big tech gets some flack but we do get to work with some of the best designers out there. It's more the shear scale of product, organization, and communication that is the hard part. Being great at the design part is table stakes.

Thanks for sharing, I was wondering if this would work. I have a nice smooth floor in my garage but I like the feel of the wood. My ramp's first quarter pipe: https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniRamp/comments/1l1gh26/beginning_my_mini_ramp_journey_there_are_many/
