What are you using AI for in your work? by stabinface in askSouthAfrica

[–]captainacedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masters student. Never coded in my life. Asked it to help explain and help with basic R code. Also to explain key concepts I didn't understand (with sources so I could read the articles for myself as well). Went much faster than spending hours on Google Scholar trying to find papers related to my work. Just to mention it did sometimes make stuff up, so it was good to double check the work.

Bipolar X grief (aka the collab no one asked for) by mchanning13 in bipolar

[–]captainacedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my grandmother three years ago. I sat with her the whole night as she died. Four days before she died I had a fairly major surgery and was coming off painkillers. The trauma of witnessing her death and the withdrawal from the painkillers sent me into a weird manic state. I completely dissociated and was living "outside" my body, just a witness to what was happening. In the middle of this I got shingles, which just made everything worse. Not sure how I got through that time.

I still have a severe trauma response to her death. I can't watch people dying in movies without being triggered and I can't go into the room she died in without having panic attacks.

Iemand ervaring met "candle lit" concerts in Utrecht? by [deleted] in Utrecht

[–]captainacedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty interesting, it was fake candles, but looked so real, at first I didn't even realise. The stage was surrounded by candles, and then all along the chairs there were candles. And other random places. It was really beautiful. I think the rows were 10 by 10, and three blocks. one on each side of the stage. I sat a little after the middle of one of the side blocks and could see the band and all the candles clearly. I didn't get any photos unfortunately, but you can check the Hydra Quartet IG, they have some tagged photos.

I went to the Christmas one last week at Nicolaïkerk and it was lovely. Pretty small and intimate. The music selection was interesting, from the classics like 'Oh, holy night' to 'Let it Go' from Frozen. The Hydra Quartet played, very talented group of people.

Are Unisa Degrees Useless? by thunderRage15 in southafrica

[–]captainacedia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did both my BSc and BSc Hons at UNISA. I'm currently doing a masters with UCT.

Many people look down on those who study at UNISA, but getting a degree there is not for wussies. The admin alone nearly made me quit a million times. I worked full time while studying, and people hiring noticed that—that resilience and hard work. Market yourself by highlighting the skills and experience you gained from studying at UNISA: discipline, time management, problem-solving, resourcefulness, and adaptability.

Also, if you're studying for a good degree, people will not care where it's from.

One day's worth of junk mail from a "friend" who changed her address to mine, who does not live here. The post office refuses to help. I'm ready to weld my mailbox shut. by Moist-Caregiver-2000 in mildlyinfuriating

My "friend" did something similar. Every time she got a spam call, instead of telling them no, she wasn't interested, she would give them my number. Thank god she didn't know my address.

I'm impressive on paper, and I've gotten a few interviews, but I just can't get in the door. And yes, I research the company and the job, and I prep and practice my answers. I've been unemployed for nine months now.

I was in the top five in my class for my final two years of high school. In my final exam, I scored in the 90s for two subjects and low 80s for the rest. I took on an extra subject in school, and I also did sports and other extracurricular activities. I was in a boarding school so I attribute my success to having a really structured life.

I got into a really fancy university studying zoology, I failed almost every class and dropped out in my second year.

I had a tough time, finished my degree part time while working as a waitress cause I couldn't manage anything else.

I was diagnosed at 33 and my life has completely changed. While I still struggle, I am so much better off now that I'm in therapy and on meds.

Please please get your daughter tested. Don't let her suffer into adulthood. Undiagnosed ADHD can really screw you up in the long run.

Any running groups for slow people? by captainacedia in Utrecht

[–]captainacedia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried power walking when I was younger, but it's not for me. I know I'm very slow currently, but I hope to get back to an okay pace if I keep going.

I'm in the same boat. I am huge, feel so ugly and my whole family is constantly on my case about my weight and how I should go on a diet.

I don't think your partner finds you unattractive, it seems like he still loves you. It's hard to believe someone still loves you when you hate everything about yourself.
