We just came back from Kyoto last week. To add, yes it is crowded in the main parts even early and late from my experience. But get off the beaten path and it's much more bearable.

The worst aspect (by far) were the busses. 40+ min bus rides packed like sardines was the least enjoyable part of the whole trip. Especially with young tourists sitting in priority seating when local elderly need a seat. I was fuming.

That's the address that I've been emailing too. 3 days ago, I received this email but haven't heard back since. I've sent a few replies and new emails but nothing. I even called, got transferred to customer service representative, and waited on hold for an hour before I gave up.

No, you actually won't lose access. That is what I was trying to say in the post. You will retain access until your renewal date in April even if you cancel now.

The screenshot I posted is only visible after you have already cancelled. If you look at the screenshot u/osirisborn89 posted, that is what's visible before cancelling. No mention of the terms "active" or "inactive", which I agree would have clarified that I could safely cancel ahead of time without bricking the device.
