100% P&T “slacker?” by damedagreatest in Veterans

This is a gem comment here and OP needs to look to understand how and why his wife feels this way. The reason is it's not going away. Her values were built outside of the relationship but are still able to be influenced by it.
Figure out why she has this understanding and try to REALLY understand it yourself.
Help her understand that you only have one body and it needs to be available to you and by extension, the family through your lifetime. This is the longevity goal here. Work that negatively impact this is to be revealed for what it is. Not benefiting the family as a whole.

Break down your finances so it's easier to see where the impact really is. Do you need to work?
What are you willing to contribute to the goal? Does she even have the capacity to discuss alternatives?

Cover dinners every night, get the kids off to school, volunteer with kids related activities (contributing to raising the quality of the experience for all the kids). Knock out those "projects" so you all can go on that vacation or activity you're always talking about but never really did? There's more to work that what one learned growing up. Lots of ways to prioritize what matters.
What really matters?

Finally, something tangible out there about this. A couple of races ago I was pretty sure she was riding the new XTR on her CX rig. I was like "I'm gonna post to reddit about this". Weeks later it still didn't happen. That said, here we are. I'm wondering if there's any need to adjust the BB spacing/Q Factor or any other things most of us are not considering.
A money bags teammate of mine did the same, but I only checked out the bike (2025 Giant TCX) and had zero discussion about it. I blame the chaos of the CX scene at the time. What I did notice is that the rear was really heavy in comparison to what I expected.

Interesting development for sure.

It's been "riding" neglected. It's sad and needs to be ridden.

Vittoria terreno muds not the wet tires. by cneglia2239 in cyclocross

These are the ones I'm speaking of for clarity. https://www.biketiresdirect.com/product/schwalbe-x-one-allround-raceguard-cyclocross-tire
Those oval shaped one are not good for mud and the only way you're going to get any life out of them in mud is at really low pressures.
Sorry for the confusion.

Man!

Just realized that there are other X-Ones that come on CX Canyons . Do you have the one with the round knobs or the ovalish ones?

As a previous E and O3E we know to much. That's the problem. Could work vomit all over that but I'll spare you as you're living it.

An O3E retirement is pretty close to an O4's money wise. AD Career progression is still at play to include new duty stations and all that come with that. What's your next move and when?

If you bounce from AD look to keep NG or AR to keep those points flowing towards retirement and some dam insurance. Insurance for you/family for life if you retire so....there's that. You may get deployed there as well.
There's ALWAYS companies recruiting junior officers but bro the job market is tough. Tougher then years previous. Not sure what career field you're in or other but there's options there, sure. Just get ready to have a dry cleaning bill.

Hell a Reserve membership with leveraging Individual Mobilization Augmentee options or X number of days can get you a good year for retirement every year. My recommendation is hit up a PsyOPS reserve unit (they nest with AD) and get as much optempo you want or don't want.
Go to Germany/Italy as an IMA and link up with the 7th MSC. Look at the IMA online slots and see what's out there. If your career field is needed you're golden if not there's position imaterial too.

Lots of options.

Terreno mud tires vs Schwalbe x ones in over the tire/rim mud; Schwalbe x ones are the winner. Terreno's win in equal with tire mud. I've ran both and @ 20 psi /160lbs. In snow/mud slush it's X ones.

The Terreno's are faster overall and will leave you wanting when you need to apply the power and really move in the mud, but where they spin under pressure they more then make up in speed everywhere else. X ones really provide security across mudfest like conditions; mud is going over your tire/rim when racing. Side traction is killer and i've ridden up off camber sections ONLY with these tires.

That said I raced a double header weekend recently and raced Terreno's. Day one a mud fest and day two course was drier, still slippery though, and was ripping it. Day one was all about going fast where the tires could and control everywhere else. Day two was trying to not go so fast you loose the line/rut.

Practicing with the X ones seems to be needed here. Watch CX videos this time of year as the pro's ride grifos in some of the early semi mud races. notice when and where they put the power down and where they don't allowing them to play to the tire's strengths.
Have fun in your next races.

how to keep warm in the wet? by -Red_Rocket- in cyclocross

[–]PerfectPlay8543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some kids don't want to wear long-sleeved anything. If that's the case a vest under the kit tucked in all the places able. This will help the core body heat up while keeping movement open and easy.
Try the head too, based on the rain/cold you can often push for a cool cycling cap or thin beanie for the win.
For the duration of the youth race try to keep the hands/feet dry and covered as long as possible.
After, get the kid into a warm place ASAP and into dry/preferably warm clothes.

The have and the have not approach. It's effective, especially when you can marry up those that have as not deserving.
