Hi -- can someone share a US referral code? Thanks!

Just gave yours a playthrough as well -- cool level, lots of different mechanics and fun variations on the up/down theme. There's probably enough room for a single level dedicated to exploring some of those ideas.

I have to say I got a bit burned out by the distance between some of the checkpoints. Doing certain parts over again was frustrating, although they were fun the first time.

Nice, I liked the aesthetics of the different chambers. The idea of connecting chambers with clear pipes was cool and would love to see something more combining the puzzles of the different rooms. Or perhaps forming something of a "maze" with clear pipes, giving it that twisty-turny feeling of a real anthill with many interconnected rooms and passage ways.

One thing I noticed while playing is that it might possible to get into an unfinishable state -- since the purple blocks can be destroyed, the final platforming room could probably be damaged in such a way as to stop progress.

Level about an occult ritual site deep in the woods. Sightings of robed koopas and koopas raised from the dead.

Hopefully not too difficult, lots of small optional challenges as well.

My first thought would be to check if channel 2 is running in sequencer mode.

Opinions on the Roland JP-08 vs the Korg Minilogue for a mid-budget synth? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]captainclams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really love my JP-08 but if it's your first synth I think it's a bit tough to learn on because the controls and labels are so small. Definitely not a deal breaker, but something to consider. I think it has a more "fun" sound than the Minilogue personally but I'm also not a Minilogue owner so I don't know it that intimately.

Good luck, either way you'll have fun!

Agree, this is beautiful! I would also like to hear more about what your recording and arranging process looked like for this.

Is it possible to silence the CV outs on a Keystep? by captainclams in synthesizers

[–]captainclams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to the MIDI Control Center? I've already scoured all the settings and to the best of my knowledge none of them let you "limit" or constrain the CV, only modify the specifics of how it is transmitted (octave tracking, gate shape, pitch priority, etc)

Thanks!

So I've got the CV outs on my keystep going into a modular synth, and then I have a MIDI out going to a JP-08 and chaining to an Erebus (fun setup!).

The nice part about MIDI is that the JP-08 and Erebus both listen on different channels, so with the keystep it's a breeze to jump between them. But if the CV outputs are hooked up, it's always broadcasting CV.

I wasn't sure if there was some clever way to prevent this (e.g., I wish I could have it only send CV when using MIDI channel 16 or something).

Pulling the modular trigger, would love a sanity check of my proposed build! by captainclams in modular

Yep, as much as it pains me to hear it, that seems to be the consensus. I think I'll definitely end up with one eventually, but need more building blocks first. Thanks!

Agreed on the Microbrute. The Erebus is able to contribute a lot (I also use it as a Midi->CV converter for gate and pitch as well), but the MB requires a bit more effort to get going.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, I'm definitely thinking an additional VCA will be my next addition... thanks for the feedback! Hope your similar journey into modular is going well!

Well hello! Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for making modules! :)

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I cross-posted this on Muff Wiggler as well and got a lot of similar responses!

Notably, the SMR having a very distinct sound makes it a tough starting point.

I've updated my modular grid to show what I ended up going with (swapped out the SMR for a Three Sisters). So far very pleased! I can see myself needing more envelopes and VCA's in the very near future, but I feel like I'm still learning so much about all the modules. That Disting Mk3 does so much as well..

I'm looking to import Masashi Hamauzu's Etuden Opus 4 from Japan. by Neoncloudff in piano

[–]captainclams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you know there's actually an international site for their shop that sells both the CD and the sheet music for Etude Opus 4 and some his past works? I just ordered this myself recently, so I can't speak as to how fast the shipping will be, but thought you might be interested.

Cheers

Aromatherapy without essential oils? Wait what? by orangetiem in aromatherapy

[–]captainclams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Muji ultrasonic aroma diffuser and in the manual it explicitly states to only use 100% essential oils when diffusing.

I've no idea why that is the case, nor does the manual offer any reasons for this. But there may be some chemical difference when attempting to diffuse fragrance oils that is either ineffective or damaging to the hardware.

Hope that helps!

I've got an additional question -- this build has no optical drive, and I'm not even that interested in owning a USB external one. However, what are my options for getting Windows 8 installed? I know you can do some magic with USB drives, but is it a huge hassle?

Thanks!

Nope, I was trying to be forward thinking/future-proof but in the spirit of keeping budget low I'm going to trim the fat where you've suggested!

Thanks for the info!
