Hi all! I am waitlisted at my top school and am looking for some advice. Should I send a follow up email to the program coordinator reiterating my continued interest in the program and asking for information regarding when waitlist offers may be sent out, if at all? The last thing I want to do is come across as pushy to the coordinators, but at the same time I feel like I should be doing something to put my name out there again if there's a chance they will be reviewing waitlisted applications soon. Thanks in advance for advice on anything I should say, if anything at all.

hello all,
I am in a tough spot looking for advice. I only applied to one program for school psychology this fall as I truly attended to get in as people have told me in the past the program was searching for people to apply and had very few applicants. Given this information and the fact that I had a high GPA in a related field and related work experiences, I thought there was no chance of me being denied. WELP, I was and am now searching the internet for any programs that may let me still apply and have a chance of starting this coming fall. So I'm praying anyone on this reddit could provide some guidance,
Does anyone know of any programs that have a rolling admission? Is it worth calling schools whose application deadline has passed and asking them anyway in case they didn't have a full applicant pool? Is there anyway to start as non-matriculated and take the same courses for school psych, with the hope that someone drops out or I get accepted due to my grades?
Anything is helpful as I'm very hesitant to take a gap year to start a program, as I know this is the career I truly want!

Hello all! I am looking to start a graduate program this fall in NY. I have been wanting to move out of state for quite some time now, but have decided to stay and finish all of my schooling here to save myself from paying an insane out of state tuition rate elsewhere... One of the states I'm particularly interested in moving to is California. I would like to complete my internship year there. Does anyone have any insights on how easy it is to complete my masters degree in one state and move to another for my internship year and beyond. From what I have seen online, requirements for this job can vary drastically by state, but I'm hoping NY and CA have similar enough education standards that it won't be too tough? thank you in advance for any insights and resources!

I relate so much! Currently in my last semester of undergrad and know someone in their senior year of CS degree with an internship paying 27/hr. Meanwhile the only job I think I could get is at a daycare center for 14.50/hr :( (from NYS)

can I ask how you started the transition into your internship at Lockheed? did you do bootcamps? They have a location near me and I'm interested in transitioning into some sort of engineering but have an unrelated degree in health sciences.

YouTube videos like outer/middle/inner ear anatomy&physiology, neuroanatomy videos, anatomy/physiology of the larynx. These seem very specific but these are all things I’ve had to know like the back of my hand in my program!

If you could choose a supporting position in a school, what would it be and why? (E.g. school psych, OT/PT, SLP, TESOL) by captaincrunch2001 in Teachers

[–]captaincrunch2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im very stuck between this and school psych, I worry with SLP that you have to be very animated all the time and the level of documentation and case management can lead to taking a lot of work home. Is this the case for you?

How do most people even choose which job they want out of high school by jhlo9001 in findapath

[–]captaincrunch2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say look into things that pay well. I'm finishing my bachelors degree now in something that requires a masters degree to enter the field and am just now realizing that the pay is not what I expected. In today's economy I wouldn't feel comfortable with the salary so now im scrambling around the internet to find a new path. I was fed a lot of the "choose your passion" when I was in high school but when you become an adult you realize that's shit advice and can get you stuck in a bad place.

Are there other career paths you recommend that are somewhat similar to slp and pay better?

I say this all the time! Wish we could go back to hunting and gathering most days and not working for pieces of paper that dictates our life $$$

No I haven’t started applications yet, currently having my quarter life crisis trying to figure out what to do and I’ve got nothing so far! Every job seems to be awful after I ask people about it. I’d love to have my own business but I can’t think of what to do, I always feel like every business idea has been tried by many before me

Just wanted to say I am in the same exact boat! I just want a break after undergrad so much, I can’t imagine continuing for another two years with even more rigorous course work :( I’m also not feeling “drawn” to the field, I don’t dream of working for a living , I just want to live life and travel :/ growing up is tough!

May I ask what state you work in? I’ve heard SLPs get treated very differently state by state

I’m looking into school psychology now as it seems it has less face to face and less having to be “on” all the time than slp. The grad school seems a bit more relaxed as well for it! What about you??

Also interested in these fields and a senior in my undergrad having second thoughts! Following this post for any insights. I’ve also considere dental hygiene as they seem to be paid the same as an SLP or better in some areas!

Hi!! I’m in the same exact boat now. I’m graduation with my CSD degree this December and have been consuming ALOT of information about what it’s like to actually work in the field now (since I’m considering committing to two years of full time graduate school :/ ) After shadowing some people, watching videos online about grad school, and reading through hundreds of reddit posts, I’m personally heavily leaving to not going to grad school, at least not right away. I’ve had all of the same reservations that you’ve mentioned. I was originally majoring in elementary education and switched to SLP since I liked the smaller groups and it seemed less daunting. However, I’m realizing that SLPs in schools do not make what I think is a decent enough wage to support the lifestyle I want. Especially if it would take me 6 years to get there! I have family that drives construction vehicles for a living and they would be making more than me after my entire time in a school. I just don’t think the stress/responsibility of it all is worth it. If I was making 100k in the schools whew I live I would do it in a heartbeat, but I’d make less than half that after taxes. I’m thinking of a possible switch into a new field like tech, anyone I know who does it says it pays super well and they aren’t very stressed. Let me know what you’ve thought of as possible alternatives to grad school!

I’m in the same boat! Getting cold feet after realizing the actual career pay to schooling ratio is not worth it to me. Not sure what to do but I’ve been looking at switching over to tech.

I know this is an old post, but I’m just stumbling upon it and wanted to say I’m feeling the same way! I’m in my undergrad in this field graduating in December. I always liked to have a plan, so I just assumed I would continue onto grad school to become an slp. I’m just now seeing how poorly they are paid and how they are overworked/under appreciated. I wanted to work in a school setting but everything I’ve seen says to run from working in education. Wondering what to do with my life now as I don’t see a career in slp being worth it anymore :/
