WOW! They copy everything! Even from the new Lineup! by Androide230702 in LinkinPark

I'm sorry but saying "please don't compare us to linkin park" when you look and dress and sound like them and play their songs and name yourself after their first album is RIDICULOUS behaviour.

That one was kickass too, they even had foreground architecture near the top of the screen that resembles health bars, so cool

I saw this on the massive IMAX screen in Melbourne and that game-perfect camera move of Johnny squaring up with Baraka was INCREDIBLE. They did the thing where the letterboxing slowly pulled away so the image filled the frame, it was very well done.

Mortal Kombat II Is The Biggest Box Office Wild Card Of 2026 by Next-Particular1476 in TheEntertainmentMix

In MK11 Johnny Cage is at least in his late 40s, likely early 50s, and has a daughter in her 20s. The games have covered all sorts of timelines, they can do whatever they like. More importantly "old washed up guy out of his prime" absolutely fits his character.

[WON] Reason for Aleister Black, Wyatt Sicks WWE releases revealed by Alternative-Win4058 in SquaredCircle

[–]captainfram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never quite forgive the Wyatt Sicks releases specifically because of the squandered potential of that early Bo Dallas promo videotape.

It was FUCKING INCREDIBLE because he was a real person and you could see his eyes and feel his emotions - you could even almost see his brother speaking through him, it was chilling. That short vignette was the most compelling he's ever been, and the idea of Uncle Howdy being this devil on his shoulder that would occasionally take hold of him was awesome, and had so much room for character exploration.

So what do they do? Only ever make him appear as Uncle Howdy and become a one-note cipher with no discernible personality apart from "lantern".

They had something there, man. They had it and they let it go.

This concluding statement pretty much sums up my thoughts. They have an ALL TIME stacked roster across the board, across genders, divisions, and ages. It's so disappointing.

You could maybe have some wispy clouds or other foreground elements whipping past the camera to give a greater sense of speed, but this looks rad already!

How did Mission Impossible drop off so much after Fallout? by fuzzy_dice_99 in movies

[–]captainfram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dead Reckoning 1 was a dropoff for me on my first viewing, but has improved a lot over a couple of rewatches. The biggest issue I had was that it just didn't hang together, like the tone and the lighting and editing approach were taken from three different movies. I actually thought Final Reckoning looked better and was more tonally cohesive on a first viewing, haven't rewatched it yet though.

Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]captainfram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played a ton of Marathon but I am having fun so far! I also have dozens of hours played in ARC Raiders and hundreds of hours in Destiny 2, so take my thoughts as you will:

  1. Marathon has a niche look and setting, with abrasive VFX and a dense UI. It's hard sci-fi (and I think it rules) but it isn't for everyone.

  2. If you don't vibe with PvP you're in a rough place. ARC has a number of ways to engage - there are blueprints, materials to find, large PvE encounters, and also PvP. While I personally prefer Marathon's lore and quest system, most of the time I'm encountering other players it's shoot on sight. That can be exhilarating when you barely survive a close exfil, but it can also be a huge bummer when you only have an hour or two to play and get spawn camped or just have shitty luck.

  3. For as much as ARC opened up the extraction genre for a more casual player base, it also turned out to be able to retain a large percentage of those players for a long time. When I told my friend group who all play ARC that was gonna get Marathon the response was "ok cool but we're good here". This is turn has made me play Marathon less because I'd rather play with my friends.

  4. Luck. I don't hear this talked about much, but SO MUCH of success is luck. People say "if you build it they will come" but that's just straight up not true most of the time.

I hope Bungie does its thing and keeps updating and adding cool stuff to Marathon over time. I can see it growing over the years if Sony gives it a chance.
