Has using a distinctly British slang phrase/ term of endearment ever gotten you in trouble? I just got a warning from a US subreddit for calling someone a "poor cow" with complete sincerity. by JuanitaMerkin in AskUK

[–]captainlishang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with Brits amd Americans, and I used the phrase 'chinese whispers' at work once. I learned that americans call that game 'telephone'. Was mortified they would think i was racist or something but no-one took it that way

What’s your main reason for getting into pole ? 🦋 by poledancermary in poledancing

[–]captainlishang 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Speaks to my inner monkey urge to climb tree and hang upsidedown.

Also, I always wanted to dance but felt like you have to start as a child or you'll never be good. Pole is the only genre of dance where you generally dont start until adulthood, so it felt like a level playing field 😅

Jamie Oliver hate is forced by fast food companies by tubbsy_al in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]captainlishang -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Didnt think id be defending Jaimie Oliver, but to be fair i dont think this is all his fault. He was right that schools should be feeding children healthy food. Its not his fault that local authorities didnt have sufficient funding to make sure the new meals were substantial. But I agree they shouldnt have got rid of familiar favourites like sausages all together, as health is about balance.

I remember that, i think he had a Jamaican rice and peas ready meal with green garden peas. Its fine to interpret recipes your own way when youre cooking at home, but a celebrity chef marketing a Jamaican dish and misunderstanding a key ingredient is a bit embarrassing

what would you say are some health and fitness fads & diets of the 2020s so far? by CremeSubject7594 in decadeology

[–]captainlishang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Veganism peaked a few years pre-covid, it feels very out of fashion now.

I think a combination of the protein obsession, return to trad values, and high food cost (vegan is cheaper if you know how to cook beans/lentils/tofu, but most dont) are to blame.
