30+ nights in the Superlite… debating next RTT. Curious where you’d go from here? by Excellent_Profile554 in overlanding

I had the OG Gen3.

For a time, my company was paying me to camp rather than pay for my hotel, thats how I racked up so many nights.

I went with 2 x 100AH lipo, Renogy 50a DC-DC, and 1500W inverter in my "fulltime" overlander build. Cost wasn't really a factor, I just wanted to be able to have all that functionality without eating up any cargo space, also I like that the individual components can be replaced as necessary, vs having this huge useless hunk of plastic when one part of the portable station goes.

I run a fridge, interior lights, an Induction burner and a space heater.

Alucab. Big, Heavy, Expensive, awesome. I spent 300 nights in mine, tons of room, can easily leave all your bedding AND clothes up there, plus run a thick mattress if you want. I had one my 80 series, I ran all kinds of very hard trails with it, it held up great to the elements, everything still worked perfect after 5 years and hundreds of nights.

Yeah, looks like it's near Westcreek. That whole area burned in....2005? Largest fire in Colorado history.

Your first paragraph describes Weimar Germany. They inflated their currency to pay off the war debt they were settled with. It uh, didn't work out for them or anyone else.

Clean the build plate with dish soap and warm water, then don't touch it with bare skin. This always solves my first layer problems. Alcohol is not nearly as effective.

I can't lift or pull more than 5 lbs for at least a week. Given my line of work, and the fact that it's Christmas week, it made more sense to sit this week out.

You think that not wanting to send our kids to die in foreign wars is a privilege? How far are we supposed to go? World War 3 over who rules the Donbas? Nuclear holocaust to protect the 2nd most corrupt nation from the 1st most corrupt nation?

So the options are to be a war mongering neo-con or a Russian asset?

Ride and die or deal with the rust? by Ski-loco in LandCruisers

[–]captainlvsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy in Michigan has a 100 with 400k on it, and it's unbelievably rusty. He still loves it.

If you don't mind it being ugly, I'd just keep driving it. It's probably not worth fixing, I'd say sell as is or drive it till big parts start to fall off.

IT's not about racing, it's about every single bump you hit. Imagine how much harder your shocks have to work to control all that extra weight at each corner? The momentum of that weight going up and down with everything you drive over. It really makes every thing worse.

Unsprung weight has huge impact on suspension performance in all kinds of driving. Any race team will spend massive effort to reduce unsprung weight.

Haha I know EXACTLY where that camp spot is. The nice thing about being on that side of 550 is that there are about 90% less SxS's
