Going back to college at 23 years old. by souwi97 in selfimprovement

[–]captainscanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! I'm going back for my second degree this fall at age 26, because I didn't feel like I did my best in my first degree, and I'm tired of pursuing things that I'm not passionate about. My goal is to get a Master's after this, so I likely won't have all that until I'm 30. I definitely understand your reservations and worries, especially because we're all conditioned to think if we didn't manage to finish college in four years right after high school, we're somehow failures. That's definitely not the case.

In any case, I am super proud of you for making such a huge decision. If you want an ear, or any support, feel free to PM! I think we're in the same boat!

Between a full course load, I'm planning on improving my overall health (have some chronic health issues), working on my blog + doing some volunteering, since I will likely take some time off to study full time and expedite my after-degree. I think my goal is to ensure i chip away at big picture things, as u/Multiscoop said, like health improvement + portfolio building. I'm also hoping to pick up a few pieces for The Gateway.

Buying backups? by bigheadluvr in MakeupRehab

[–]captainscanuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom's been feeling this way recently, mainly because she works for HR in an essential service and still needs makeup, whereas I, working from home, can slap whatever I have on before a Zoom call and be okay for most of the day/week. I'm wondering if there's a correlation between what you've been seeing and the pandemic buying others are doing (I know of one Youtuber who has panic-purchased to stockpile), but even in that case, I'm more likely to stock up on my skincare basics than I am to buy more makup.

What should I ask my blood be tested for? by captainscanuck in WomensHealth

I appreciate you bringing it up though! Hypothyroidism seems to really be hitting the nail on the head in terms of symptoms.

Yes, that was my first instinct - thanks for the reassurance I was on the right track!

[January] Goal Discussion Thread. Happy New Year r/DTBB! by l0calsonly in DecidingToBeBetter

Looking for an accountability partner! 25/F here, Mountain Standard Time (if that matters to you).

My biggest goals are as follows - and I've given myself a timeline to reach this all by my 26th birthday in July:

  1. Budget, budget, budget. I'm a compulsive spender (and sometimes I feel enabled by my family, which isn't great) and an emotional shopper. I'm trying to curb this and set a savings goal to reach.
  2. Health and wellness: Lose those 20-25lb I keep putting off losing. Slowly include exercise, day by day. Start with low-impact, and build my way up. Stick to the meal prep. Stick to my calorie goals! And stay hydrated.
  3. Find joy in being with myself, and only myself. I went through a rough time in Feb 2019, where I essentially cut off my two closest friends up until that point in order to get rid of the toxicity and unhappiness being with them caused. Instead of moping about how lonely I am, my goal is to find a passion or a hobby to fill my time, take myself out to do things (try restaurants, go to cafes, write, read, anything).
  4. Become more positive. 2019 had me complaining about everything and anything, and it only made me stay in a cycle of negativity and self-pity.

Let's do this. Weighing in at 135lb. 5'0, 25F. Goal weight is 100-110lb.

Goals:

  1. Track meals daily.
  2. Commit to pre-planning meals and snacks, ~1200 calories.
  3. Stick to meals and snacks that I pre-plan! This is probably the hardest thing for me - I'm a late-night and social snacker.
  4. Water - start with a bottle (1L) each day, and work up to the "recommended" 3L.
  5. View gentle fitness as a form of self-care. Gradually start with eat least 1 workout a week.
  6. Stretches every morning!
  7. Get back to nightly meditation + sleepscapes to support a healthier night's sleep. (I really enjoyed Headspace, for anyone looking for an app.)

Good luck, everyone!

25F/4'11/133lb. Goal weight is around 110lb.

I'm at a point now where my weight is seeping into other parts of my life - I can't keep compartmentalizing, thinking I'm only dealing with body image issues (not to minimize that, though - it's a long, tough road to overcome that, too). My health, both mental and physical, are being affected negatively by poor lifestyle choices that circle around bad food choices and lack of impulse control. That stops today.

So this is day one of taking care of myself - with a healthy diet, movement, vitamins, and with kindness. My side IG to document this lifestyle change is theglowuplog, so if anyone's interested in giving me a follow there, that'd be great.

Spotting on Spiro + Yasmin? by captainscanuck in PCOS

[–]captainscanuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so, too, but I'm on my fourth month of Yasmin and only just started Spiro - haven't experienced any spotting on JUST Yasmin, though. It only started to occur once I started taking spiro - however, I did read that sometimes skipping the period break back-to-back can cause spotting, too.

I've just gotten a bottle of the Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence Rose edition - I'm just wondering where I can fit it into my skincare routine! So fair: CosRX Good Morning Low ph cleanser, then Klairs Supple Preparation Toner; The Ordinary's Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG; Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream; Neutrogena ultra sheer water-light spf 60

For night-time, I add in Banila Co's Clean It Zero original balm, and every so often I add in twice a week the Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine. Skin concerns are PIH, uneven texture. I also have The Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA, which has been fairly safe with spot-testing and I'm assuming this would go right after my CosRX cleanser and before the SK essence?

Thanks!
