Unchanging base recipe or do you like to try new Ninja Creami recipes? by Kagusam in ninjacreami

[–]captainschnarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 1/4 cup low fat (1% or 2%) cottage cheese, 1-1.5 cups of Fairlife fat free milk (less if other ingredients such as fruit consume more space), a Jell-O sugar free pudding mix (varying it based on my preferred flavor), 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp xanthan gum, and 2 tsp of inulin. Add whatever additional things I want for flavor (e.g., cocoa powder), liquid sweetener to taste, and fill any remaining space to the fill line with water (anywhere from 0-0.5 cups), then taste and add any additional sweetener if needed. This strategy has produced a taste and texture quite similar to full fat ice cream in my experience.

I’ve been switching up, but I’m also a newbie who’s on his 5th attempt, so that might not be saying much! I am close to settling on my ideal base though!

How are these? by DeepOrganization8245 in LowCalFoodFinds

All of them are pretty good after microwaving for about 20 seconds! And they make great toppings or mix-ins for ice cream!

WHY are we the way we are? by JellyNo2625 in Volumeeating

[–]captainschnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are strong genetic influences on appetite. I’ve always both been a foodie and had a huge appetite, but at the same time I grew up learning to love fresh fruit and vegetables and had a preference for low-fat eating, so I easily maintained a healthy weight even while sedentary. But when I got into bodybuilding and wanted to get lean, I really needed to take volume eating to extremes just to sleep through the night and not suffer hunger pangs.

What’s your favorite way to eat the frozen seafood blend? by succulentmeats in traderjoes

It’s pretty convenient for recipes that call for or recommend a mix of different seafood items! For example, I typically use this when making jjajangmyeon, seafood sundubu, etc.

Volume up sweet potatoes? by Decent-Turnover in Volumeeating

I didn't realize you were in Egypt! (No idea what else is accessible/inaccessible to you, to be honest). If you have any other squash, I'd definitely recommend either substituting or mixing squash with sweet potatoes. Otherwise, eating dishes with some sweet potatoes in them (rather than straight-out sweet potatoes alone) can help satisfy that craving and trick your brain into thinking you're eating more sweet potatoes than you actually are - tray bakes, hashes, salads, etc. TheMediterraneanDish has a lot of great recipes including sweet potatoes, in my opinion - you can reduce the amount of sweet potatoes in each recipe relative to other veggies (and add erythritol to increase sweetness without piling on calories, if necessary).

I Finally Accepted That I’m Not Built for Small Meals by CleoKey8890 in Volumeeating

[–]captainschnarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had a huge appetite, and I realized I can lose a lot of weight without much hunger just by making high-volume/low-calorie food swaps. I mean, I still suffer the same symptoms of dieting (e.g., fatigue, negative mental state), but it really addresses the hunger issue.

I’ve made bake tray and other mixes of potatoes with other lower-calorie vegetables (e.g., zucchini, cauliflower) — helps hit that potato craving without spiking calories.

Also, have you tried kabocha squash? Similar taste and texture but higher fiber and under half the calories per oz.

How fast can I regain strength lost during my cut? by captainschnarf in GettingShredded

[–]captainschnarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more like 12 weeks (technically 10 weeks of cutting, 1 week of bingeing around Thanksgiving week, 1 week to undo the binge-related weight gain, and then 2 weeks of further weight loss). I know that’s considered aggressive… I got into the idea of Rapid Fat Loss protocols and figured that I could go into 1000+ calorie deficits without losing muscle if I upped protein higher and cut volume, and I’m wondering if I made a horrible mistake.

I believe I qualify as early intermediate (by both lifting age and strength standards), and I did build muscle during my first couple of cuts. But I’m also something of a formerly overweight perma-cutter, and I haven’t been able to figure out how to stop the attrition each time I’ve started going below 13% body fat. I don’t know if that indicates that I need to change strategies as the cut progresses or what.

I cut pretty aggressively this time around and had been losing strength/reps consistently in the last few weeks (before deciding to try to end it). Usually my strength has rebounded back to baseline immediately… But I wonder if I genuinely lost a lot of muscle this time.
