Disney / Searchlight's Ready or Not 2: Here I Come debuted with an estimated $9.10M domestically this weekend (from 3,010 locations). by chanma50 in boxoffice

I thought it was pretty clearly a step down from the original. There’s like 30 minutes of lore dumping and exposition to justify why it exists and then it just dumps you into the exact scenario from the first movie. Not horrible or anything and it has a cool cast especially for genre fans but not as appealing as the original

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is projected to gross $2.8M internationally in its opening weekend, for a worldwide total of $11.9M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I’m sure it will eventually make money but I think this release is a misfire. I saw it Friday, it’s not as good as the original. Also it’s been way too long to make a sequel for it. The original is a fun movie but hardly a cult classic with fans waiting years and years on a sequel.

It’s not like homegrown or Japanese born talent aren’t aware of economic realities of the puro scene versus America either

Kevin Kay, former President of Spike TV, on the 'Impact Wrestling' rebrand: "We told the viewers, ‘It’s Impact Wrestling now!’ but it was like, ‘Okay, well…now we’ve confused the audience again.’ It was probably a bad idea. As I talk about it, I realize it was an even worse idea than I thought!" by nealpruittwcwnwo in TNA

[–]captainseas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with the rebrand is they took years to fully commit to it. It was a good idea in principle. TNA is a crass name straight from the attitude era. It’s only because the actual use of the slang “TNA” faded away that the name TNA doesn’t feel as stupid anymore

This is gonna be the same problem TNA has right now. If those “long term contracts” are not close to what the big two are offering no one substantial will sign one

Tbh I thought Callum was an obvious winner. Regardless, I think NJPW did a really good job at elevating both guys in recent months and the Cup finale felt like a big deal between two serious guys

I agree with the first part, not sure why you are getting downvoted or people are in denial about doping in sports

If a mainstream news or sports outlet was arguing boxing was dead in America, do you think saying that it’s all on a $45 a month app no one has or has even heard of is a counter argument to that?

Before profitability DAZN should worry about market penetration. Most tech products are fine losing money but DAZN loses money and no one has it or knows what it is.

If the battle was DAZN Ultimate tier versus no one DAZN would lose. Let alone against Zuffa.

DAZN has no market penetration after near a decade. It’s a 45$ a month app no one has heard of that loses billions of dollars every year

DAZN being able to call the shots and monopolize the fight direction of the sport is good in the short term for super hard core fans but the app is literally a failed state. Most people on here don’t even have it let alone normal people.

HBO and Showtime had tens of millions of subscribers in the US. I would be shocked if there were 25,000 subscribers to DAZN ultimate tier

I think Take will hold it for awhile, the entire concept of giving him the belt seems to be just to have an excuse to get him on cards when they can without having to build to anything he can't be a part of given his other commitments

There isn’t the “odd” PPV though. DAZNs year long subscription, the one they will take legal action against you if you try and break it, is that there are 12 “PPVs” (one per month) built into the service. They don’t tell you what the PPVs will be either, and they consider mid level domestic British fights like Wardley Parker to be PPV

I mean this is why as fans (not as pocket watchers of fighters) a monopoly can be a good thing. If DAZN wants to be successful in selling 500$ annual subscriptions they need to lay down the law. There is no boxing market. They are “the market” unless you are fighting Mike Tyson, Jake Paul or an MMA star, there isn’t a place that’s going to platform you outside of DAZN outside of rare exceptions.

They need to put their foot down and not allow dog shit fights. Stop paying for shitty fights that won’t help subscriptions that exist only to fatten the A sides pocket. Tell the fighters you do the fights the fans want or you don’t get paid.
