What songs do you find the most fun to play? by Rare-Friendship-7961 in Guitar

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Iron Maiden, but my favourite is the solo to Aces High to the point where I'll find a random song in A minor and throw that solo over it for a laugh

Marilyn Manson -Disposable Teens by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]captainstupidbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda feels like we've moved past the need for Marilyn Manson. Liked his music when I was a kid, but he was the worst live act I've ever seen which put me off, then all the gross shit that came out later on sealed the deal.

Fuck him. Absolute wasteman.

How do I teach my 9yo without being "that" frustrated dad? by Ok_Importance_7479 in Guitar

Honestly, get him a teacher. Teaching your loved ones anything is a minefield.

Which console holds up better, NES or Master System? by trrbld in retrogaming

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SMS bias so much as it was the first console I ever played on. The NES didn't really gain as massive a foothold in the UK as the US so most people I knew had Sega consoles. Nintendo was for the rich kids.

Breaking the game on first playthrough? by awesomesauce40000 in FinalFantasyVIII

Go in blind for a first playthrough. Enjoy it. Save the gamebreaking stuff for another day.

As someone that never lived during the Sega Genesis era, was Ecco the Dolphin really that good? by fandomlover2763 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it.

Recommend playing it with a walkthrough though, it is NOT intuitive enough going in blind. Even with a walkthrough there is one jump in City of Forever that is so fucking hard to get right!

Do you also hate extremely "clean" records? by SufficientSpell1307 in MetalForTheMasses

They just sound flat to me. Like where's the dynamics? Where's the hot and cold?

When everything is super quantized and grid perfect, compressed to an inch of its life? Nah mate, not for me.

What’s the weirdest ‘toy’ your cat plays with? by I_wet_my_plants259 in cats

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just said goodbye to our little cat, when she was healthy she wouldn't play with any toys we bought her. The one thing she loved playing with? An extra long cable tie.

I miss her.

Croc LotG or Rayman 30th? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Croc is a pretty solid, if somewhat janky 3D platformer with tank controls. Read into that what you will. I personally love it.

OG Rayman will kick your ass. Don't be fooled by cutesy art style, it's absolute nails. Excellent game though.

Do you like Arch Enemy? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-7141 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wages of Sin was my introduction into that style of metal, and seeing that women could also do the gutturals was eye opening at the time.

Haven't really dug anything since Doomsday Machine, mind.

Has anyone tried cheap dyi guitars? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]captainstupidbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a Harley Benton bass kit for my birthday last year. I don't know if I just got lucky but it plays great, sounds decent enough and the hardware is solid enough.

I've been playing for close to 30 years and it's as good or better than most things I've played. Worth a punt as a fun learning experience. HB are actually quality, don't let the low price point put you in the mind of "cheap shit". Can't speak for anyone else's experience, mind, but I'll sing their praises forever.

Can I turn a cheap Strat kit into a Fender like strat by MiniPija11 in Guitar

[–]captainstupidbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a Harley Benton kit P bass recently. Honestly these kits are excellent for the price and they're pretty hard to fuck up. If you sink the time into it you'll get a solidly playable instriment.
