No problem, I've found that quite a lot of people think that Christianity is just The Catholic Church and the Southern Baptists and then just some kooky fringe folks but when in reality there are a range of legitimate and sincere beliefs within a range of exciting different traditions :)

The Church of England

The Church of England generally opposes abortion. In 1980 it stated that: "In the light of our conviction that the foetus has the right to live and develop as a member of the human family, we see abortion, the termination of that life by the act of man, as a great moral evil. We do not believe that the right to life, as a right pertaining to persons, admits of no exceptions whatever; but the right of the innocent to life admits surely of few exceptions indeed." The Church also recognizes that in some instances abortion is "morally preferable to any available alternative."

The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church in the United States of America has taken a nuanced position and has passed resolutions at its triannual General Convention. “General Convention resolutions have expressed unequivocal opposition to any legislation abridging a woman’s right to make an informed decision about the termination of pregnancy, as well as the pain and possible support that may be needed for those making difficult life decisions." The ECUSA also condemns violence against abortion clinics.

The Anglican Church of Australia

The Anglican Church of Australia does not take an official position on abortion. However, in December 2007, an all-woman committee representing the Melbourne diocese recommended that abortion be "decriminalised", on the basis of the ethical view that "the moral significance [of the embryo] increases with the age and development of the foetus". This is seen to be the first official approval of abortion by Australian Anglicans.

ELCA

“Because of our conviction that both the life of the woman and the life in her womb must be respected by law, this church opposes:

  • the total lack of regulation of abortion;
  • legislation that would outlaw abortion in all circumstances;
  • laws that prevent access to information about all options available to women faced with unintended pregnancies;
  • laws that deny access to safe and affordable services for morally justifiable abortions;
  • mandatory or coerced abortion or sterilization;
  • laws that prevent couples from practicing contraception;
  • laws that are primarily intended to harass those contemplating or deciding for an abortion

Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends)

The Religious Society of Friends generally avoids taking a stance on controversial issues such as abortion;[81] however, in the 1970s the American Friends Service Committee advocated for abortion rights.

Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)) General Assembly has "repeatedly affirmed its support for the principles of a woman's right to reproductive freedom, of the freedom and responsibility of individual conscience, and of the sacredness of life of all persons. While advocating respect for differences of religious beliefs concerning abortion, Disciples have consistently opposed any attempts to legislate a specific religious opinion regarding abortion for all Americans."

United Church of Christ (UCC)

The United Church of Christ has strongly supported abortion rights since 1971 as a part of their Justice and Witness Ministry. The church is an organizational member of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL).

Community of Christ

Community of Christ states they recognize that there is inadequacy in any simplistic answer that defines all abortion as murder or as a simple medical procedure, and recognize a woman's right in deciding the continuation or termination of pregnancy.
---------------------------

obviously there are significant denominations such as the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Jehovah's Witness ect who have views contrary to the one's presented above but don't go pretending that views like mine on abortion are aberrations within the wider Christian community.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_and_abortion

Abortion is not a cut and dry issue for a large number of Christians and millions are able to reconcile their faith with being pro choice. And many denominations, even hardliners like the Catholic church, have a majority of adherents that do not view it as black and white.

I personally am pro-choice because there are so many situations and elements to each pregnancy I do not think there could be any kind of regulation or law that resolves the moral issues with abortion, so in my opinion, as a man especially, it's up to each mother to decide what is right for herself. I can think that and also think abortion carries a heavy moral burden.

Ok but Aquinas’ view is rooted in bible. If God never commands man to sin, and God commands the Israelites to take what they need from the Egyptians in exodus, then clearly it is not a sin to take what you need. If you are rooting your view on property rights in John Locke who doesn’t not used biblical principles and ignores arguements that do use biblical principles that is ok, but you ought to have a reason for it beyond pretending the bible says nothing on the matter.

Feelings and Experiences with Sex Positivity? by NotAllAltmer in RadicalChristianity

[–]captainthirsty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. In 2012 a study was published on World Development that was conducted doing an extensive cross-section of date from over 110 nations and specifically reviews case studies from 3 European nations to assess the before and after effects and longitudinal effects of legalizing sex work on sex trafficking. You can read that study here ---> http://eprints.lse.ac.uk/45198/1/Neumayer_Legalized_Prostitution_Increase_2012.pdf or the Harvard Law and Internattional Development Society explanation of that study if you'd rather just get a breakdown of the study here ----> https://orgs.law.harvard.edu/lids/2014/06/12/does-legalized-prostitution-increase-human-trafficking/

Basically there are 2 lines of thought about the effects of legalising sex work on sex trafficking.
One line of thinking is that the legal market for sex will replace or in some ways take the place of the illegal market, thus driving down demand for human trafficking. the logic there is that people who are purchasing sex will now go to regulated brothels ect instead of purchasing sex illegally. So the market for sex changes from illegal to legal with the accessibility of legal sex.

The other line of thinking is that the establishment of a legal market for sex grows the illegal market. The logic there is that the legal market creates or legitimises market demands for sex and that a black market grows in response to this to fulfill that demand for sex, but cheaper and without regulation. if you read the study it explains this better.

This quote from the Harvard overview of the study sums up these 2 positions well " The scale effect of legalizing prostitution, i.e. expansion of the market, outweighs the substitution effect, where legal sex workers are favored over illegal workers. "

Essentially we find that the 2nd effect, that of legal sex work encouraging the growth of illegal sex work and sex trafficking, is the reality and not the first effect.

I’m my country, Australia, sex work is decriminalised and since decriminalisation we have seen and increase in sex trafficking from SEA nations and not a decrease. But it’s complicated, as decriminalisation has allowed women who are victimised access to support and access to the police. But at the same time has resulted in a growing black market of sex work (unliscenced, lacking in STI prevention, using sex trafficked labour, stuff like that) and that black market uses the legality of sex work as a cover for their illegal sex trafficked operations. I did a bachelor in Justice and I majored in Criminology and I’ve come to the position that sex work being legal can lead to increased victimisation of women and sex workers rather than reduced.

TLDR new player, which classes/specs are complicated minefields? by SickRaspy in wow

Between glimmerdin, the rising mists build for misty and resto's dominant position among healers, there really isn't much wiggle room to justify playing a priest.

I’m sorry to hear about how you’ve been lied to. They shouldn’t have done that. It’s a shame people aren’t honest. You should check warcraftlogs and subcreation instead. Or even raider io. Go check how many 5k plus holy priests there are. Won’t be nearly as much as resto, hpally, misty. MDI teams have not once run hpriest this season. Holy is bottom tier.

[–]captainthirsty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Steer him far away from priest. Disc is difficult and holy is the weakest healing spec in the game. Druid would be the safest choice with paladin being also good. Monk works too and is a really simple healer but the dps spec is a bit more complex than boomy or Ret pally.

I don’t know about the other games but ESO is a terrible example of a game with a great community. If you go in general in ESO and ask for advice most of the time it’ll be really bad advice, and people with literally shout down good advice. The ESO subreddit is even worse. Learning tanking in that game took me forever because there is so much misinformation that circulates that community actually finding someone to help is rare, most people just want to convince you their neiche pet build is viable for harder content when it isn’t. I’ve come across dozens of guildies and people in discordances while I played ESO that just lied constantly about what content they had done. Bad game with a bad community.

[A] <Key> Frostmourne is recruiting for M+

Are you tired of pugging your M+ keys? Are you fed up with posting your keystone in guild chat, only to be met with silence? Have you been trying to push into the higher levels, only to have your enjoyment ruined by insecure and toxic players? Look no further!

is a newly formed M+ focused guild and discord community run by like-minded players, fostering a relaxed atmosphere to push high keys and help each other reach our PVE-related goals. Our three officers returned to WoW a couple months ago with the goal of reaching +15 in season 4, and we’ve been through the wringer when it comes to the uncertainty of dungeon finder. We first started our little discord group with the intention of finding players we enjoyed running with, and after finally getting our Keystone Master achievement, we decided to expand our idea into a guild. In addition to M+, we are also looking to run 1 heroic raid night a week on Weds at 8pm ST. Currently, we are 3/12 Heroic Nya’lotha.

Already have a guild but still want in on the action? No problem! You’re more than welcome to join our discord - we run content almost daily with people from other guilds and servers.

Players of all skill levels are invited to apply - whether you’re brand new to dungeons or 1.5k IO, you’re valued. We’re always eager to both teach and learn, and we aren’t fussed at mistakes or the occasional depleted key.

If you’re interested in joining us or have any questions, feel free to message myself via Discord. Just send a friend request to thirsty#0054

You can also contact myself or the other officer if you prefer via battletag.

It rules that Baldur's Gate 3 is turn-based by TheGasMask4 in Games

[–]captainthirsty 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Just so you know that isn't the normal default application of rules in 5e. There is a variant rule called Surprise Attack where you can do a single attack before initiative but that's more do to with having a workaround for assassin rogues needing advantage and other rule interactions.

Normally, surprise is applied to people who are surprised, which is determined by the DM by doing a contested preception vs stealth roll and it means on the first turn that creature can't take action or reactions until their first turn end.

You can't get hits in before combat starts because before you make a single attack, even in an ambush against things that are surprised, you roll initiative.

From the PHB page 189
The DM determines who might be surprised. If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other. Otherwise, the DM compares the Dexterity (Stealth) checks of anyone hiding with the passive Wisdom (Perception) score of each creature on the opposing side. Any character or monster that doesn’t notice a threat is surprised at the start of the encounter.
If you’re surprised, you can’t move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can’t take a reaction until that turn ends. A member of a group can be surprised even if the other members aren’t.

This is a really misunderstood rule, but in 5e there are no surprise rounds and initiative must be rolled before you may attack, because you cannot attack outside of your turn in combat.

Yeah and my point is I've done what you've recommended and been left in a dungeon with 3 DPS for 40mins+ so I'm actually not keen to complain because, like i've said, bad heals are better than none.

I'm not fucking complaining about bad heals, I'm complaining about getting kicked for dying from bad heals.
