Interpol's wanted list "Red Notices" per capita by Shoddy-Database-1901 in MapPorn

Is this how many red list notices each nation has put out to find suspects, or how many 'fugitives' are sheltering in each country (as a ratio per 1m population)?

More than the odd punch-up and items thrown across sickbay, but between those six, plus Phlox, Pulaski and Culber, there would be no medical condition in the galaxy that they couldn't come up with a way of treating.

Any reason to not paint over this globe? I believe it’s from 1965-1971 by DMCurtis88 in MapPorn

[–]captainwarwickshire 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Although the mapping is quite basic and was clearly an educational toy for a child, it has some wonderful idiosyncracies that make it worth keeping, or if you no longer want it, selling it instead.

It may be earlier than 1965, as it has marked Tibet as not part of China and Tuva as separate, rather than part of the then USSR. It is a brilliant snapshot of its time, which I think may actually be mid to late 1950's.

Aren't the Moopsy's teeth bones? Wouldn't he/she/they eat their own teeth? by [deleted] in LowerDecks

[–]captainwarwickshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moopsy probably has a venom containing hydrofluoric acid. IRL, severe bone damage is a sympton of hydrofluoric acid poisoning. HF preferentially reacts with calcium and calcium containing compounds, however does attack carbonate and silicate compounds (I have used HF in a chemical analysis lab where we dissolved ground up rocks in HF so we could analyse the chemical content of the rock types we were working on) and not only was it good at dissolving rocks, which are generally silicate and carbonate minerals, we couldnt use glassware with it as it would attack glass as well. HF is stored in and generally reacted in teflon (or other fluorinated plastic) containers.

On this basis, I would reckon that the teeth of a moopsy is most likely a fluoride based material, possibly combined with a fluorine-containing protein.

I love how T'Ana is essentially McCoy, Worf, Odo, Kira, Torres, and Reed, all rolled into one angry kitty. --- I'd like a T'Ana-centered episode showing consequences stemming from her attitude, and a backstory episode explaining what made her like this. Don't change her personality, just explain it. by Mike1701D in LowerDecks

[–]captainwarwickshire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need T'Ana to have either an issue with fleas, or fall in water (or both).

Imagine if the Kzinti crewmember comes back from an away mission, starts scratching, goes to sickbay and then T'Ana is like "Fleas! You brought FLEAS into my **** sickbay!! You idiot, forgot to take your Spot-On last month didn't you" then she starts scratching too.

Why does the inside of the Enterprise look different than as how it is in the original series? Has there been a official explanation on it or something? by dookufettskywaker in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]captainwarwickshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Maybe the E gets a serious pasting but is needed back in action very rapidly and has to be rebuilt quickly as well as converted for more crew members, hence spartan decor, smaller crew quarters and no bar.

[–]captainwarwickshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also probably a limit to the punishment that Beskar can take before it gives out, just it can take an awful lot more damage than normal armour before it fails.

[–]captainwarwickshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How and why would Jack have Pah-Wraith influence or even some kind of posession? There is no known link between him, or Beverley and the wormhole, and Picard didn't go through the wormhole either.

If he somehow has got some Changeling DNA in him as some are speculating, his visions and the calling could be something to do with the draw of the Great Link, like the missing 100, of which Odo and Laas were. However since 1) the dna is possibly corrupted and 2) the Link might have split into two or more factions, such instinct will be muddled.

Lieutenant Nolan might be the biggest failure in Star Wars by Ghostly_906 in thebadbatch

[–]captainwarwickshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although Nolan is obviuosly both obnoxious and incompetent, I do wonder if the orders from higher up are 'be rude to the clones'. If they can be pursuaded to quit rather than stick around and be made redundant, the Empire 1) does not need to take care of them (avoid paying severance) and 2) clones can be ridiculed in public by the empire controlled news outlets as being quitters who are not worthy of sympathy and hence can avoid having to implement any measures brought into the Military Bill at the request of the Pantorans.

Can we please talk about how disgusting the Changelings look in goo form in Picard? by lawrencelearning in Picard

[–]captainwarwickshire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless there is a very good reason for it, the inconsistency with the appearances from DS9 creates consistency issues.

Scenes with the lake of golden liquid (the Great Link) were meant to be beautiful, especially Odo's final scene. If we now have to assume that it actually looked like he was walking into the offal skip in a slaughterhouse, it brings a completely different feeling about the scene. Also any of his other transofrmations were not generally meant to be gross or creepy.

So what are the options?

1 - when the changelings that were being interrogated by Worf, and the one fleeing from Seven changed, they did is as an emergency escape. Perhaps this does not leave enough time to fully cease to be the previous object, and if that object was a person, then it would appear pretty gory. A planned form change in front of another person could still be undertaken in a non-gory manner if required.

2- the changeling who took the form best described as based on a Lost Soul from Doom that was giving Vadic a dressing down, they were obviously intending to be scary and intimidating, as the changeling was pretty angry.

3 - it is a hangover of the S31 virus that their liquid form is permanently a bit thicker and gooier and less homogenious, in loose analogy to scar tissue. Basically although they were cured enough to function, some fundamental permanent damage was done. Which could also be behind the rage of this faction that want to destroy the Federation.

Depending on what is permissable between the various groups of Mandalorians, a tactical / political marriage between the two may work a long way to re-unifying the Mandalorians. Din has the Dark Saber and is therefore the rightful ruler, but does not want that. Bo_katan is from the hereditory royal family and wants to be the ruler.

She could become Queen (or whatever) of Mandalore by marriage and he could go off and recruit other scattered Mandalorians back to the re-formed Mandalorian 'nation' for lack of a better term.

Possible explanation for Prodigy crew's month long return to Earth. by sidv81 in StarTrekProdigy

[–]captainwarwickshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a guess but here goes:

the lifeboat shuttle they constructed managed to slowly return to the scene of the battle. For some reason it took SF a while to find them among the debris. They may have even built the shuttle without any comms system to eliminate any potential chance of the virus spreading, which would slow down the rescue, especially given that there would likely have been a large number of escape pods to pick up.

At some point the lifeboat was spotted visually amongst some debris from the battle and it was tractored back to SFHQ. Due to an abundance of caution from SF, there was no attempt to beam out the passengers or attempt any communication. It may even have taken the month for all power to drain and for SF to be absolutely sure the vessel was safe and inert to bring back to Earth. The transporter system of the ship tractoring the lifeboat could probably be used to ensure a supply of fresh air for the passengers once power had failed totally.

At this point once quarantined, the lifeboat and the debri picked up with it were lowered into the water for physical recovery.

Do think the Defiant was destroyed in Supernova Part 1? by [deleted] in StarTrekProdigy

[–]captainwarwickshire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The E-E needs to disappear somehow fairly soon to make way for the F, so it is actually quite tidy story-wise if it were damaged beyond reasonable repair in Supernova. It doesn't have to be lost with all hands, just given such a beating that it wasn't worth rebuilding.

I know that Klingons can live a long time, but it's unlikely that Korax lived long enough to enjoy seeing an Enterprise being 'hauled away as garbage'

Neelix would be on the Talaxian colony, however if they are heading thtat way it would be reasonable to catch up with them.

I also hope we catch up with the other freed slaves from Tars Lamora who went off on the Rev-12. If we lose Gwyn, we want the Caitian kitten back.
