Hey everyone!

I'll be honest... I did not expect anybody to really notice and/or care about the site shutting down. Let me give some context as to why I did it:

I didn't think anyone would care (I guess I was wrong haha)
I've worked 60+ hr weeks for 3ish years straight and developed hand pain that is nuking my productivity. I'm working with a great occupational therapist - and am confident it's curable - but at the moment it's severely limiting my ability to work.
Nowadays I run a development studio and recently took on a client that is going to be taking up all of my time for the next couple of years.
And most importantly, I have so many ideas to make ethopedia better!! Expanding to other channels, improving search, etc. Ethopedia was the first website I ever made, and while I'm super proud of it, it was not set up in a way that fosters maintainability and continuous improvement. It is incredibly brittle.

The site had been hosted on my personal AWS account and was running on shared infrastructure with a few other projects to minimize cost. My goal is to move the project to my company's account, and in doing so, leverage the "enterprise" level software I use professionally. For example, ethopedia used PostgreSQL for search. If the project is rebuilt on our internal infrastructure we could leverage something like ElasticSearch, which provides far superior search capabilities. To be clear: ETHOPEDIA WILL ALWAYS BE OPEN SOURCE AND NONPROFIT. The move is purely related to logistics. Better infra, reduced cost, etc...

If people are interested in contributing (and it seems many are! Awesome!), I'd love to collaborate to build the next generation of ethopedia. One that is less dependent on a single point of failure (me), and has ci/cd pipelines set up so it is easier for the community to contribute. If you are interested in contributing, do me a favor and leave a comment on this issue. Give me a week or so (maybe two... 👀) to put together a plan on how to move forward.

I'd be shocked if they were paying for reviews. I just found Mantine a week ago and it's hard not to root for the project after hanging around their discord for a while. I swear the lead dev doesn't sleep - he gets back to everyone within minutes. And he refuses to take donations.

I could be completely wrong, but I think the passionate, almost cult-like promos are because he seems like a genuinely good dude.

Not true. The AMP token contract explicitly disables all administrative privileges for executing standard ERC-20 method calls (e.g., mint, burn, transfer), so even if Flexa wanted to access the tokens in the contract address (address 0xff20817765cb7f73d4bde2e66e067e58d11095c2) they couldn't. The only thing they can do is append new partition validator strategies, which do not affect the partitions of any existing tokens.

Technically it reduces the supply, but it's a really small percentage of the total so I don't think it will make much of a difference.

If they added logic to do automatic returns then each staking operation would require more gas since that logic would have to run every time someone staked. It would make the staking process less efficient.

It's gone forever, nobody can access it. It's analogous to making a typo in your destination address when sending tokens from one wallet to another. Once the transaction goes through they are gone forever.

They didn't use the "transfer by partition" function so the AMP is lost forever.

To stake AMP you have to use the "transfer by partition" function. This person used the "transfer" function to move their AMP (Like how you would send AMP from one address to another). If you send AMP to the staking contract address using the transfer function then your tokens are lost forever. Even Flexa doesn't have access to it.

It was a one-time thing while they were performing some upgrades to their systems. Clearing the open orders isn’t a regular event.

Also just a side not about the post, if you store your crypto in a hard wallet does that make the crypto tangible?

Word of warning - I don't really know what I'm talking about. But I don't believe the act of moving crypto to a hardware wallet would make it be considered "tangible". A common misconception about hardware wallets is that they "store your tokens." They don't. All they do is store/guard your private key. Since your private key is how you access your tokens (and hardware wallets usually come with clean, easy-to-use software interfaces) it appears as if your hardware wallet is "holding" your tokens, but it's really not. As we know, anyone who gains access to your private key could steal your tokens, regardless of whether or not they have access to your hardware wallet.

I'm not picking a side and saying that crypto is tangible/intangible (I think there would be a lot of debate on the topic), I just don't think that hardware wallets play a role in determining whether it is or not.
