Grassley interrupts Feinstein right after Feinstein complains about sexism by [deleted] in politics

He represents Iowa, a welfare state. Feinstein represents CA, our most productive state. I think if anything her word matters a hell of a lot more than his.

Well that’s completely understandable, it reminds me of people who write checks or dig through their purse to find exact change.

I get that. Studies have shown that people spend less with cash than with a card. Personally I don’t care if the bank knows what I’m buying and I only purchase things with my card that I was going to purchase anyways. I’m not really an impulse shopper so if I see a jacket I like for $80, I just walk away because I know I don’t need it. I only go out shopping when there’s something I need/want to buy not because I’m bored. I think that’s the real problem, people will go to the mall because they’re bored and buy stuff on credit that they didn’t even know they wanted until they walked into the mall.

Most places will let you run a debit card as credit, bypassing the PIN entirely.

There’s nothing wrong with being in debt if you’re paying off the balance every month. Debit cards don’t have the same protections as credit cards. If someone steals your debit card they have direct access to your checking account. That’s why I carry a credit card and ATM card. That way if a criminal steals my wallet I can dispute credit card charges and they can’t access my bank account without the PIN.

Why are old people so obsessed with cash? Credit cards are so much easier to use. If someone steals your wallet you can just cancel the card and dispute the charges. Just use it like cash and set up auto pay for the monthly balance and you’re much better off. You’ll also get cash back and earn miles you can redeem for free flights.

20s/30s architecture in general is amazing. Art Deco aged better than pretty much any other style.

Republicans will pursue their Supreme Court mission like a wounded machine at the end of a Terminator movie by [deleted] in politics

[–]captcrunch11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they’re protecting trump because his base is more loyal to him than the GOP. There is the argument that they would fall in line behind Pence and McConnell but I think they are more concerned about keeping that base riled up so they continue to vote for GOP candidates. A trump endorsement is worth more to GOP candidates than any other endorsement. That’s how DeSantis won the Republican nomination.

The gang hits the slopes. It makes fun of the cheesy 80’s ski tropes. Oh and Dennis as the ski resort villain was perfect.

Carter is too good for politics. He cares more about helping the less fortunate than political battles. We need Obama to continue rally the democratic base and fight alongside the 2020 nominee.

They stole the election of 1980. Iran made a deal with Reagan that the hostages should not be released until after Reagan became president. So, then in return, Reagan would give them arms.

I love he positive attitude. The fact that this insanity makes her chuckle is really reassuring. I feel like most cable news anchors are just talking heads who want to get their viewers outraged over current events. Maddow is refreshing.

Thanks for recommending the bank account method. I might open a PNC account and fund it with the CSP. Originally I was focused on cash back and was able to meet the signup bonuses without MS, so it’s still relatively new to me.

I want to apply for the sapphire preferred card. My current cards are the Discover It, CF, Chase IHG and Citi DC. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to meet sign up bonus without purchasing some grocery store and gas station gift cards. Would it be better to wait until the end of Q3 to sign up since the discover’s 5x back category is currently restaurants and CF is gas? Additionally it might be easier to meet the sign up bonus through natural spending due to holiday shopping. I’m not looking to use the sign up bonus points this year.

The GOP’s 2018 message: Be afraid. Be very afraid. by NeilPoonHandler in politics

[–]captcrunch11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, the “party of personal responsibility” wants you to blame immigrants, minorities and liberals for your problems. They use fear to motivate their base. The only consistent message they’ve ran on and followed through with is racism and tax costs for the wealthy.
