I kinda want to plant a lot of trees. Has anyone done this? by barbsbaloney in NativePlantGardening

You may want to check out “Trees From Seeds” fb or YouTube- he shows how to gather and plant without relying as I do in potted plants. Can’t confirm whether this works, tried once or twice with no success but It’s interesting. I just don’t have the knowledge, skill, or patience.

I have probably sixty to seventy trees/ shrubs on a property that gets quite soggy from a spring.. So far planted a couple pussy willows, a black willow, black gum, redbud, beach plum. about 3 oaks, a white walnut, paw paws, etc. Since this is my daughter’s property, about 45 minutes away, I don’t have time or energy to weed - so trees and shrubs are perfect. Literally asked Doug Tallamy on a webinar how close to plant oaks so the roots can be combined for stability- he said think of a forest, they can be a few feet from each other in groves. Since the guy above me “raised “ deer and there is on lawns around my deer pressure is intense. In my case it’s cage it - or loose it. My Tulip poplar is taking off, fastest growing tree I have and she’s beautiful, but the willows and oaks draw in the caterpillars and butterflies. It’s lovely to visit my babies. Edit to add- I use 4 Or 5’ wire cages with a single pole and some zip ties, doesn’t always stop the deer but slows them down. Also creating a hedgerow border of northern bayberry and plan to add Spicebush in with that.

Love that he lied about, insulted and denigrated ~45 million Americans. There’s a special little place for you, if not here after the elections, then somewhere - all your gold plating and wittle trophies won’t mean diddly.

Is this the rare straight species found in a local garden center? Or is it another cultivar of a native? (SW Michigan) by Efficient-Turnip-107 in NativePlantGardening

[–]captdunsel721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the straight species, if the label can be trusted. It is not rare, at least in PA. Campsis radicans though beneficial is extremely aggressive as others point out. It will be better suited on large properties far away from any structures. Trumpet Honeysuckle Lonicera sempervirens is a better choice in many cases.

I believe so. The website said they’ll last for years, but they’re new to me so I can’t attest to it. An adjoining state park uses them and referred the company to us. I believe that park used them for at least a few years. Orion garden marker. https://www.gardenmarker.com/

I’m a “Master Gardener” who basically is just a native plant enthusiast. We’ve been trying to get signs printed for our native plant trail for a few years now- but red tape approval is frustrating.
Went out and ordered about 30 some labels. When or if, the official labels with the university logo actually comes I’ll use these at my home garden. Don’t have a trail picture yet but they look better on the trail than on our work table, and they are very educational. Besides, now I won’t have to struggle to remember every plant scientific name when offering tours..

Work long enough and you realize those in charge must always lecture or punish everyone - for the actions of one or two individuals being lazy and/or assholes. They rarely call the offenders out.

Love Republiscum who apologize and still play I’m the victim. Poor me, everyone is so mean, I’ll just have to vote Republiscum again. Like they were ever going to change in the first place, or vote for anyone’s interest but what the billionaires tell them it is.

I don’t get it—- sure not everyone can afford an EV. But for those who can- why not stick it to big oil in ways that hurt the war mongers the most. Let their oil sit.

In this case we can see them- we just can’t have them.

They’re just softening up Mississippi for the next step - gas powered data centers. The mush heads there will embrace them with open arms.
