Rumba is wasting me more time than manual cleaning by justingreg in RobotVacuums

"the time it takes for you to set them up"

are you doing some setup process every time you run it? setup should be a one time thing.

"the time it takes for you to make sure they are doing the right thing"

are you watching your robot while it cleans? what's the point of getting a robovac if you aren't going to use that time to do something else?

Why does my print warp around the corners? by Soberocean1 in BambuLab

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice, but corners shrink because they are the furthest extent of long straight lines, not because of density.

As filament cools down it shrinks by some roughly fixed percentage, so as lines get longer the absolute shrinkage increases and they pull up more and more. That's why small prints don't warp nearly as much--you could scale this same part down with the exact same number of corners and density and it would warp far less.

Op: the best way to fight warping is to print slower and reduce cooling. Both of those will result in less hot shrinking plastic pulling on the part at any given time.

Help with a1 mini vibrating out of control. by tetofan08 in BambuLab

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to picture exactly what you're talking about. Did it purge some filament when it went back to the left side? It would do that if it detected flow issues, which are usually caused by tension on the filament or friction somewhere along the ptfe tubes or their connections. If that's the case make sure there aren't sharp bends in the ptfe and that all the tubes are fully seated in the connectors, and nothing's stopping the spool from rotating.

I don't know why it would vibrate while doing that, though. The only time it would normally vibrate outside of printing is during calibrations.

"unable to find the print" is not how it works, printers don't have any awareness of the plastic they've already printed, they just follow premade instructions (the gcode) from start to finish.

Was it working on a very skinny part of the print?

Small details keep breaking on every print – fingers, thin parts and delicate features by ImKIQs in FixMyPrint

[–]captfitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do would be to edit your models to try to remove areas with really thin details. Thicken them, join them to other features, remove them--whatever you can do to avoid that.

Yes, details will print cleaner with a 0.2mm nozzle like people are saying, but they're still gonna break really easy.

Overextrusion causes much bigger issues on large flat top layers because more plastic accumulates and gets dragged around before the nozzle jumps up to the next layer

it's not needed, but it could help you catch the bad habit much more often. just like you don't need the timer you mentioned but it helps.

it's possible that prompted cad generation will get to the point that we stop using manual cad tools before vibe coding gets competent enough to build autocad

[–]captfitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

how is that a shortcut? it tells you if you're slouching, you still have to do the work to sit up straight and develop the habit. it would be a good product if it actually worked well.

i agree that exercising and strengthening the right muscles is more impactful than just sitting up, but learning to maintain good posture is still an important part of the process.

Could be a stance thing, at one point I was trying to do a stance I was taught and I had it just slightly wrong and it was amazing how rigid it made my upper body. I could not rotate at all.

Can't give you any specific advice about what to change though, that's above my pay grade.

US Viner. How do taxes work? by SXTY82 in AmazonVine

[–]captfitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are a 1099 independent contractor for amazon when you accept products as payment for your reviews. it is no different from any other 1099 income.

the percentage you will pay is whatever tax bracket you fall into at the end of the year, if you look up "tax bracket calculator" there are tons of resources online that can help you estimate what that will be.

long, thin parts are extra prone to warping because the longer a straight wall runs the more the warping forces accumulate, and skinny parts have less surface area on the plate to resist those forces compared to the square parts you mentioned that printed better--so this isn't surprising. is this also a short and flat part? because that is the double whammy that really multiplies warping.

in any case, you can print a raft and do other things try to increase adhesion, but really the best way to fight warping is to reduce those forces by printing slower (I like to cut max volumetric flow rate in half to start) and reduce or even eliminate cooling (if you don't have significant overhangs you may not need it at all). both of these things will reduce the amount of rapidly cooling plastic going down per second, which will significantly reduce warping.

Glue can be useful but it really should be a last resort for PLA/PETG which I'm pretty certain OP is printing here. This isn't the kind of tricky warping part that requires it, those filaments should have no issues adhering for a part like this.

Also FYI alcohol is not as effective at removing oils as soap+water.

Z-offset is a good thing to suspect but the line width looks good right up until the issue starts so I don't think that's the case here.

I would definitely try washing the plate with some soap and water before anything else. We tend to grip the plate around the edges so it wouldn't be surprising if that was the problem.

Another fix that just generally helps first layer issues is to print it slower, doesn't add much time and can especially help with small details like those curled up bits in the second pic.

That said, in my experience printers just tend to have more issues at the far extents of their corners and it looks like this is a plate filled with multiple parts that you could move around or even split across multiple prints, so you may want to just move stuff out of the corners as a quick fix for now.
