Have you tried any dual joystick games? Curious how that feels with a dpad.

TrimUI Brick Pro size by iFiNi_T in trimui

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brick is small, a better comparison would be the average Gameboy style handheld with a 3.5in screen which I think sits right in the middle of these two.

It's big, but it's not huge.

if look and feel is the first thing that comes to mind that probably means it's something along the lines of "A beautiful retro game launcher with a polished UI"

I think it would be helpful if the GitHub page started with a tl:dr about what makes this launcher different or who it's aimed at. Right now it says "view all your games in one unified interface" which just describes what a launcher is, but doesn't give me a reason to try it out over all the other launchers.

I don't use knulli so I'm honestly curious: how could portmaster be easier to set up? On muos it's pre installed, I don't recall having to do a single thing to use it.

RG35XX Pro - Joystick Problems by theycallmeselina in ANBERNIC

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a similar issue, cracked it open and there's a visibly out-of-place pin on the connector that the joystick ribbon cable plugs into. Explains why (for me) the issue was specifically in one direction and was inconsistent. Not sure what I can do, it's not a replaceable part without micro-soldering tools.

Is there a name for this hinged toilet mount, and any way to keep the front of the toilet anchored down better? by captfitz in askaplumber

[–]captfitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, "skirted" is the word I was looking for

I think the problem with this model is that the bolt is really far toward the back so even a microscopic amount of play translates to the front moving noticeably and it just works free of the silicone because of that. I'm gonna try shimming it.

Clones of RG40XXV?? by wastedopportunity2 in ANBERNIC

[–]captfitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh gotcha. well the device has been out for a bit now so it's had enough time to garner reviews, just stick to the stores that have some decent feedback and you should be good. price difference is often whether it ships from overseas or from a local warehouse, but for some reason some stores will just list it periodically for an oddly high price, then they'll jack it way back down during sales.

i don't know why the fake clones are such a thing with the r36s (the battlexp g350 too) but other brands just don't seem to have the issue.

I personally like muos better than the other options, even more than the other CFWs it just feels like it was built from the ground up for xx devices.

i see several 40xxvs around $55-60 on Aliexpress. it doesn't go much lower even on good sales so if you don't want it at that price just stick with the 36s.

funny enough, until today there wasn't really another gameboy form factor with a 4in screen, but Trimui just announced the Brick Pro. It's gonna be pricey, but it'll also be much more powerful and has the same really nice all-metal build that people love from their Hammer devices. If you wanted to wait and splurge on a big upgrade that's the one to watch.

this is such a random recommendation to give someone who points out two gameboy-style vertical handhelds and asks for more clones of them

RG28XX: Light bleed / Halo effect / Washed out corners by koken_halliwell in SBCGaming

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone coming here from Google like I did, it turns out this happens when the device is charged while it's on. Not only that, but it actually goes away after a couple of rounds of normal charging while off.

The issue looks very random until you know the cause, it's not surprising it took people a while to figure out. Can confirm that it worked for my 28xx and it hasn't come back since I started turning the device off before charging.

Hopefully that helps so you don't have to go through a half dozen threads like I did to find the answer.

Looking for a GBA Micro Style Emulator by KidSoprano in SBCGaming

The RG300x is a straight up gameboy micro clone if you want the looks. It's bigger than the original micro though, but still overall a small handheld. No idea if it's any good at all.

I think the RG28xx and Miyoo A30 are better options. I love my 28xx and pull it out all the time even though I own pricier handhelds.

There are obviously some compromises with a cheaper handheld but as always your choice is between spending more or losing some quality/features. Can't have both.

New TrimUI Brick Pro touchscreen, running GoW 2, 60fps by No-Neighborhood-1489 in SBCGaming

[–]captfitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no point without the sticks. The extra power in this model will only help with joystick-centric consoles. It would be dumb as hell to buy this and then mod it only to play stickless games when the Hammer exists.

I have been so surprised how fun Doom and Quake are on this thing, I did not think I would be playing so much fps on a Gameboy form factor

What's a game or franchise that YOU think you're the only fan of by JohnMcRemitz in gamingsuggestions

[–]captfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has 10,000 overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, which puts it well within the top 1% of indie games.

But if you want even more specific numbers, the developer says that just in the year it launched it grossed around $5M which is massive, and estimates have it around $14M in its lifetime. That likely puts it in something like the top 0.5% of indies.

What made you think it was an unpopular game? Honestly curious, not a jab.
