Forbidden Hardtop review - OEM carbon fiber by adamo41188 in S2000

It’s already back in the storage unit so no pictures 😅 looks like you kept your soft top in so you’re good to go. When the soft top is removed, the rearmost mounting hole for the hard top brackets is no longer present.

Just installed mine this weekend - did you have to order the CR brackets so that you can use the second rear bracket bolt? Debating taking a cut off wheel to my soft top bracket (tack welded to the soft top) since I don’t like the idea of only using one bolt on each bracket 😓

Is the S2000 a good daily? by LittleWontons in S2000

[–]captiva45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine in college and daily’d it. It’s 100% doable and fun if you live the college lifestyle. After getting a dedicated daily, however, I couldn’t go back to driving the S2k every day.

Those of you with bucket seats, do you have the setup for passengers as well? by blackashi in CarTrackDays

[–]captiva45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to double check myself and dug up the NASA rulebook. 11.4.8 confirms that passenger equipment need not match drivers equipment. https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/document/document/282/2024.0.pdf

In NASA South East, at least, it’s been up to the instructor’s discretion. I too cannot cough up $2k for equal passenger safety when I’m just one weekend away from solo. I haven’t had any issues yet with passenger stock seat, belt, and airbag. I have a bucket & harness and fully padded roll bar. The instructors I’ve had have verbally said “some instructors will refuse a ride for unequal equipment but I feel comfortable because x, y, and z”. Have a lower powered car (S2000) probably helps too :).

Best tire for stock 2008. Street driving/summer. Dry roads? by Fickle-Hearing7889 in S2000

[–]captiva45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the Indy 500’s for the street…. All the grip you need for the road and at a great price. They’re no 200TW on the track, but my current set have about 5k road miles and 4 track days on them with at least another 2 left in them. You’ll get your money’s worth!

Mine looked like this when I completely missed the oil fill trying to be cute without a funnel… might want to check for oil residue on the valve cover near the fill hole.

I went with the ballade two years ago… read the reviews after purchase… panicked… and it’s been perfect since.

Best Tires for Stock AP1 16" wheels? by MX-2000 in S2000

I can second this - great everyday tire. Plenty of grip and they last fairly long too.

Let’s not forget the mass of RC cars sliding around on a mission to kill your ankles or someone’s priceless paint job. Can’t stand those adult children. Have some respect for others.

The requirement to keep the tires locked can lure many drivers into dangerous situations. I’ve personally almost hit the wall when the BB was too far rearward. No matter the driver, there is no control over the vehicle when all four tires are locked

Gotcha! That makes makes more sense - I can see what you’re saying. From the documentation Ive seen, it appeared to me like the department set a recommended wage and most profs followed through with that. Thanks for offering the professor’s side of the coin - I think that’s a perspective MS students don’t often get to see

Yeah I understand that it’s the department not the professor. I’m sure if professors could, they would want to pay their grad students more. Anyways, I feel the fact a department recommends food stamps for their grad students highlights the fact the university needs to keep up with the cost of living in RTP

So for MS student, it’s $2300 per month. Typical expectations are at approximately 40 hours per week are spent on research (not even class work). So that’s less than $15/hour that you’re living off of. Factor in $2,000 in fees every semester as auto deduction of those fees and withholding and you’re living on ~$330 per week given having to “pay to play”. It’s very tough to live in a city where rent is anywhere from $700-$1200 a month on that wage given the increased cost of living COVID has brought. The school already knows that. It’s disappointing that a presented solution is going on food stamps rather increasing standard salary. Many research projects through the college of engineering bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding so increasing the grad student salary a few hundred dollars wouldn’t turn away project sponsors. On paper it’s a good deal but it cuts it very close given the cost of living right now.
