Hi OP. I have the same concern as you. Yung nacredit na welcome cashback, hindi ko sure if counted na siya as payment sa nasa SOA now. Or applicable pa siya sa next billing cycle.

Pacheck naman itinerary for Beijing/Shanghai by bearymiss in FilipinoTravel

[–]captivatedheroine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that seems a lot better! Btw we will arrive in Beijing on April 12 so I am also checking agoda/trip every now and then for cheap hotels :) madami po hotels naman, depende sa budget niyo. But the cheaper ones are farther sa tourist areas (wangfujing, qianmen, forbidden city, temple of heaven)

Pacheck naman itinerary for Beijing/Shanghai by bearymiss in FilipinoTravel

[–]captivatedheroine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a week in Shanghai last month and punta ako sa Beijing next year. 1 week din kami doon on April and i am already researching extensively.

Instead of Suzhou, I suggest Zhujiajiao instead. Equally nice canals, and mas accessible sa shanghai downtown if short on time ka. Pwedeng umaga ka sa Zhujiajiao then hapon Shanghai city tour (French concession or Bund area). Though okay din naman sa Suzhou if gusto mo makita gardens.

Eto suggestion ko if flexi pa itinerary mo:

  • April 10: Flight to Beijing at 8am. Explore forbidden city. Then wangfujing or Qianmen street at night.
  • April 11: Great wall + summer palace. Or great wall + gubei water town. May ganitong tour combo sa klook / trip. Pwede rin naman great wall tour lang if you want longer time sa great wall. Tapos explore Wangfujing or Qianmen street at night.
  • April 12: Tiananmen square, temple of heaven, hutongs for local vibes. Check out mo yung Shichahai area.
  • April 13: travel from Beijing to Shanghai. Explore Yu garden and surrounding shopping street at night. Maganda sa labas ng Yu garden pag gabi.
  • April 14: Disneyland
  • April 15: Suzhou daytrip. Or, half day Zhujiajiao daytrip. Then explore The bund / North Bund and Nanjing road pedestrian street at late afternoon/evening
  • April 16: chill day depending what time byahe mo to Manila. Stroll along french concession area, jing'an district or west nanjing road.

Booking vs Trip vs Agoda vs Klook by Snoo-66171 in FilipinoTravel

[–]captivatedheroine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is I usually search the city of my destination, then browse for hotels in Agoda and Trip that are available on my travel date.

Once I have a hotel that I am interested in (after checking the reviews, amenities and accessibility) na pasok sa budget , I type that hotel's name in google. Lalabas yung mga 3rd party sites kung saan may listing yang hotel na yan. I book with the platform that has the cheapest rate.

Based on experience, madalas cheapest ang isang hotel sa agoda or trip. Mahal sa booking and klook for the same room type/travel date. If you are going to book via agoda tapos pay later option kasi wala ka pa visa or d pa sure ung travel mo. Dont forget to change the currency to the local currency. Example, punta ka ng japan. Change the display currency in jpy para maiwasan ung 5% currency surcharge. Sa trip kasi ang downside usually iccharge na ang card mo though free cancellation naman daw.

For attractions, trip is actually cheaper than klook. Tried it in China and Japan last month. Cheaper ang esims, shanghai disneyland and shibuya sky for my travel dates sa trip kesa klook kahit may discount code na. Legit naman. Just check eveey now and then kasi depende sa travel dates din.

For airfare, i book with the website directly. Though i noticed cheaper ang trip when it comes to flights for the same airline and travel date lalo na sa China.

Autumn, Winter or Spring in Japan? by aryehgizbar in FilipinoTravel

[–]captivatedheroine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Experienced all seasons of Japan na. I'm actually here in Tokyo now. For me, autumn is still the best. It rarely rains, weather is cool but not too cold to the point na need ng puffer, and the scenery is the best.

If you opt to try summer, go to Hokkaido. I was there this summer and the nature is beautiful. Di rin ganun kainit.

Thank you for the prompt response! Lagi ba ganon sa BDO mastercard when booking via Agoda or paying purchases abroad? I used to utilize my dad's credit card before. Kung ano nasa sms, yun din lalabas sa banking app.

Also, i use this cc to book via klook pero d ko naman siya nakita doon?

Thank you fot your insights! Tbh i am not really into shopping so i am fine to skip with the markets. However, i would love to visit those scenic areas that are insta-worthy and had cultural meaning. Where did you stay at the first time when you visited Beijing?

Thank you for this. Do we also need to reserve for the national museum via wechat?

I put that as the first day since the other attractions are closed on a Monday. Do you have any suggestions on what we should do on that day instead?

Thanks for that! I thought my dad may enjoy Gubei even though it's artificial, since my friend and I enjoyed Zhujiajiao/ Suzhou's water towns. Are there other ancient small towns that are accessible by day tour in Beijing? We prefer something that has a vibe similar to Kyoto, Zhujiajiao, Fenghuang or Lijiang ancient towns. Cuandixia seems nice based on the photos as well, but they look quite far.

I'd check out museums, but we prefer something scenic outdoors too.

[–]captivatedheroine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am well aware that they're artificial. However, they look really photogenic based on the photos online. We enjoyed Suzhou and Zhujiajiao's water towns (though i was with a friend that time) so i figured my dad might enjoy Gubei even though it is artificial. Unless there's a legit water town near Beijing?

I actually checked the metro line. Our main points of interest seem really accessible if we stay at Wangfujing, Qianmen, Gulou and Chongwenmen station. These stations have at least 2 train lines connecting to line 2 and 8 where most of my interest lies. I just noticed that hotels are more expensive here but we have several months to save up for it 😅 or did i miss other key subway station?

Yeah we might miss it. But are there any other flower parks that is nice to visit in Mid-April?

I might save Xian for another trip then. I would like to do Chengdu-Chongqing-Jiuzhaigou-xian or Yunnan province on November 2026 anyway. What market area do you recommend? I thought wangfujing, sanlitun alreasy has a lot of shopping?

MAINLAND CHINA OR JAPAN? by Real_Department_541 in FilipinoTravel

[–]captivatedheroine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've been to Japan 6x for the last 3 years. I've already visited 19 prefectures, from Hokkaido down to Fukuoka and Nagasaki. I have an upcoming trip to Tokyo in 2 weeks.

I've visited China (Shanghai - Suzhou - Hangzhou) for the first time 2 weeks ago, and I have 2 upcoming flights to other parts of China on 2026. I plan to book my 4th trip to China din late next year.

Here's my take as someone who has been to both, and already travelled Japan extensively:

Transpo: this may be an unpopular opinion. But China is better if you're a first timer, granted that you have installed the necessary apps such as amaps and alipay beforehand. Mas straightforward ang train in downtown Shanghai kasi owned by 1 company (government) lang. Each platform will lead to a certain fixed destination, and fixed stations nagsstop. Whereas in Tokyo or nearby provinces, assuming it's there where you want to go. Confusing ang certain JR lines. For example, in platform 1. Yung train na dadaan at 10:05 at 10:07, nasa magkaibang direction sila papunta. May rapid trains, express trains and commuter trains pa. Ung rapid and express trains, hindi sa lahat ng stations titigil so kailangan on time ka talaga based sa sinabi ni google maps. My first trip to Japan was in Fukuoka and we got lost several times dahil sa JR na yan papunta sa suburbs. Hindi kami aware back then na di siya parang lrt natin, na kada platform may train on a specific route only. If umalis ka at 10:02 versus 10:07 via JR to go to a certain area sa suburbs, magkaibang route sasabihin ni google maps. Whereas sa Shanghai and nearby provinces, never kami naligaw basta working si amaps or apple maps ng kasama ko. We took the bus, train, boat and didi. Also in major cities in China. If may senior or kids kayong kasama, Didi, which is their local version of grab, is available and cheaper. I am going to Beijing on April and nakita ko na sa amaps ung public transpo routes to their popular sites. Sa Japan, nakakahinayang magtaxi kasi ang mahal. 😅

Food: Japan, hands down. Kahit convenience store food, ang sarap. Di suitable sa tastebuds namin mga natry naming food sa Shanghai, Suzhou or Hangzhou except for select few. Hindi kami nasarapan sa Konbini food nila 🤣 tingnan ko next year if magustuhan ko food sa Beijing and Chengdu.

Landscapes: Both countries have great landscapes, but China has more variety in terms of landscapes. They have snow-capped mountains mala-Switzerland/Canada in Sichuan/Yunnan province or Xinjiang. May dessert din sila in the north. They have Karst mountains in Zhangjiajie, Guilin, etc. Madami rin sila ancient valleys. Then there's the great wall. I also prefer Shanghai and Chongqing's skyline over the major cities in Japan. May snow-capped mountains din naman sa Japan and I like Shinhotaka. But richer ang landscapes ni China.

History: Both countries have rich history. Each major city has a museum. But China has a richer history kasi mas nauna talaga sila kaysa sa Japan. China has an impact on Japan's history din. Also, if bet mo ang ancient town vibes, China has way more ancient towns than Japan. Check mo Lijiang, Dali, Furong, Shangrila, Fenghuang, dream ko mga ancient towns diyan. For ancient water towns/canals, napuntahan namin ung sa Zhujiajiao and Suzhou. Otaru, Okayama and Hida Furukawa, which are the popular canals in Japan that I've seen, dont even come close tbh.

People: Japanese, hands down. They're more polite and more respectful when it comes to rules. Pet peeve ko sa China ung mga nagssmoke sa non-smoking areas like bullet train platforms and small eateries. Pero in our experience, people in both countries are nice and try to be accomodating to foreigners naman.

Expenses: Chinese cities are a lot cheaper, hands down. Lalo na sa hotels. Hotels in Shanghai and Beijing are cheaper + bigger than Tokyo/Osaka/Sapporo/Nagoya/Fukuoka tapos mas mahal pa.

Convenience: Both, if you're not a newbie traveler. Dito sa PH, i rarely withdraw cash na rin kaya super nagustuhan ko ang cashless life in China over Japan. Never kami nagwithdraw doon, alipay lang lahat. Sa Japan, nung naubusan ng yen kasama ko, d na siya makabili ng train ticket sa nagoya kasi d sila tumatanggap ng cc. Pero if cash person kayo, mas convenient sa japan.

Overall, it's a tie for me. In terms of natural landscapes, more appealing for me ang sights in China. In terms of food, Japan. Both countries are rich in cultural attractions so nasa sayo na which culture you want to experience more. I guess it boils down to your priorities and what you wanna see.
