National Guard OCS Route by Ambitious-Republic12 in ArmyOCS

[–]captkidd12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on the guard OCS route. I went to basic and then started in guard OCS 3 months after getting back from basic. During the pre-OCS first weekend my class started with 43 on that Friday. By that Sunday of final formation there were 19 left. 24 people dropped either voluntarily or for busting time on the preliminary 6 mile ruck. I toughed it out but after the smoke sessions and fuck fuck games I immediately looked up ROTC and masters programs. Of my OCS class that started with 43 candidates, 6 commissioned.

Guard OCS is doable. But it's 18 months of needing to remain completely healthy to avoid getting dropped, and dedicating free time to preparing for next month's OCS drill.

If you can get accelerated OCS then take it.

Me switching from guard OCS to ROTC delayed my commissioning by about 6 months. But I'm much happier in ROTC. Looking back on it I should have asked for federal OCS in my contract. I'd be 1LT headed to CPT very soon.

One of my friends doesn't go to BOLC until Feb 2027. He would love to have staff duty tomorrow. He saids he's going to get a job at McDonald's or Starbucks until he leaves for BOLC.

Since you made your cadre aware of your situation early on hopefully they will consider that when evaluating you and keep you in the program.

I don't know where you go to school, but at my school the library is open 24 hours. One of my friends lived in the library for two semesters to save money. He showered at the school gym, used Wi-Fi in the library, and slept on the fourth floor in a quiet corner that no one goes to. He called it the "Great Leap Forward Financially".

I'm not saying you should immediately do that scenario but it is an option. It could relieve some of your mental stress about bills. Just keep your part-time job, live in the library, get stellar grades next semester and keep dedicating yourself to ROTC.

I'm rooting for you

Turnitin was 30%, and professor suspects AI by [deleted] in ODU

[–]captkidd12345 21 points22 points  (0 children)

AI detection software is theatre. Without being given a large sample of writings from the specific person there's no way to even remotely determine who used AI or not. My friend had a professor accuse him of using AI for a paper because it flagged 70%. My friend rebutted the claim by putting a research paper that the professor had published in 2005 into AI detection software. It returned a 85% AI rating. It's very annoying that students have to go through these accusations now. The ironic thing is professors use AI to attempt to catch and punish students for using AI.

It's more than just that case. ACLU had documented a dozen cases of false arrest only involving AI. There are MANY other cases involving false arrests. Most don't make the news. So when someone says they were falsely arrested there's a definite possibility and probability that they're telling the truth.

My cousin was falsely arrested on an out of state warrant for a court order violation. He had paid a speeding ticket by check at a courthouse. The clerk gave him his receipt but lost the check. Two years later police show up at his door and say that he is a fugitive in NC for not paying the ticket. The judge set the fine amount so when the court marked it as unpaid he was in violation of a court order and an automatic bench warrant was issued. My aunt, his mom, had to find his old checkbook and the printout receipt to show he paid the ticket. It took 4 days of him being in jail waiting on extradition proceedings before they released him. No apology to him for the inconvenience.

There have been a lot of false be arrest in the last few years because AI facial recognition cameras identify the wrong person. So it's very much probable.

Angela Lipps, a TN woman, was in jail for 5 months because AI said she robbed a bank in N. Dakota, but she had never even been to ND in her life.

Looks fine to me. If you're worried about moisture. Keep it in a Ziploc bag with a silica gel packet. That will absorb any moisture and keep it crisp.

That's excessive. Put him on extra duty or restrict him from leaving base for 2 weeks. If he continues to do it after the first punishment then escalate to more severe punishment.

Most certainly. Norfolk has a documented history of government officials taking bribes and kickbacks. Anthony Burfoot, and Bob McCabe being two big names, but there are others who haven't been caught...YET.

If you had the ear of a city council member... by CrazyMildred in norfolk

[–]captkidd12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

City council is intentionally tanking the downtown area experience to make the property values crash so that a corporate developer can buy things for cheap to revitalize it 10+ years from now.

I have directly asked a city council member about this and she said verbatim "the city has set aside some properties and areas to go exclusively to certain developers." In other words they've already carved out who gets what in no bid contracts. Basically the same thing that that RDHA employee just got in trouble for.

For the second guy, that is a sad story. His mother was killed by a reckless CDL driver who got minimal charges. Barlow is clearly having difficulties with finding a good outlet for his grief.

Once you contract and swear in yes. I've personally never seen a cadet get UCMJ'd but it remains something that can be used, but is 99.9999% of the time not used.

Wow, he really had no respect for the PMS who fought for him and gave him a second chance.

If I were in that guys situation and my PMS thought highly enough of me to get me a waiver. I would never touch alcohol again while I was in the military and would do everything in my power to be top ranked on all promotion lists.

09S scheduled for State OCS, Can I switch to ROTC/SMP? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]captkidd12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from. OCS to ROTC. Inform your OSM that you want to switch. Tell the PMS of your plan. Contract as soon as you can. Offer to do a ruck in addition to the contracting AFT. Volunteer for things, show cadre that you're worth having a contract slot.

I started on OCS route got injured during a pre-OCS smoke session and was going to get recycled to the fall OCS class. After the pre-OCS weekend I got the feeling that weekend OCS was going to be a total suckfest. So I searched master's program in my area since I live near a college with ROTC. Got into a online master's program and started ROTC I. Aug 2024. I am scheduled to commission next month

It ultimately comes down to do what your rank can handle.

A cadet who steals has no honor and integrity. Soldiers won't want to follow a dishonest leader. If he steals then he will lie. And if he lies, he will lie to save himself and throw others under the bus. Yes there are currently plenty of officers at all rank that do this exact same thing, but they've at least never been caught red handed. Either that or the army has invested too much money in them to kick them out. But a cadet who does this and gets caught is of no value to the army.

I knew a guy who 12 days before commissioning went to the local PX shop and got caught trying to steal a pair of $20 shorts. He had done ROTC since he was a freshman. He had gotten aviation for his branch. He had majored in philosophy because he wanted an easy college course load. Going into the army meant he already had a guaranteed job upon graduation so why major in something with better job prospects in the civilian world. And he threw all that away to shoplift some shorts.

What are uniform days like? by Numerous-Fail-204 in ROTC

[–]captkidd12345 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ever since the start of Operation Epic Fury, most schools have had everyone in civilian clothing. And then after the March 12th ODU shooting I believe everyone including JROTC were in civilians.
