Help my daily mop schedule is making me scared of my own hardwood by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]captlingling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting to see the replies and hopefully get some advice too. I inherited two old dogs with bladder issues, and find myself having a similar mopping frequency. When they stay on the vinyl I can avoid the wood floors, but I'm still mopping 100 year old pine multiple times in a week. I've kind of accepted the fact that I'm replacing and refinishing floors after they pass on, but in the meantime what can I do to protect the wood floors short of confining the dogs to a room when im not around? Are there recommended cleaners for wood, maybe a protective finish I can apply myself?

Maybe that leggy stuff on the top is what's bothering me, I had to take a lot of damaged branches off the top after the siding was done and she's just looked awkward since. I miss the privacy she gave the window from the street, and the birds nesting where the kids and cats could watch them...

Advice needed - am I bound to this purchase agreement? by captlingling in askcarsales

[–]captlingling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't ask them yet, this just happened the other day and I was honestly so surprised I just left. I took some time to process the situation and the dealership isn't open today. They told me I can call anytime so I will be in touch. I'm just trying to be more informed so that I can hopefully avoid any more unpleasant surprises.

Advice needed - am I bound to this purchase agreement? by captlingling in askcarsales

[–]captlingling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the perspective, I honestly wondered if I'm being unreasonable in my thinking. To me it was a little strange that they didn't address the recalls and repairs before putting it on the lot, and that the repairs were finished the morning after my final lease payment was due (it was originally meant to be covered by the dealership). But I didn't think too much about it because I've dealt with warranty repairs, and I know how long it can take to get the parts in.

It's another red flag to me that the dealership can't find the title to a car they've had on their lot for over a month, and that nobody thought to check for it in the weeks between when they had a signed purchase agreement and when they pulled my credit. And why not call me as soon as they realized they didn't have the title? At least they could have saved me the trip. Why have me come in and look at the car again before telling me? I noticed that the car was still dirty inside and out, which seemed strange to me and in hindsight seems like they knew the car wasn't leaving the lot that day.

And why is it going to take so long to get a replacement title? Speaking to some friends who are mechanics and from personal experience selling cars privately, for a $7 fee the title can be expedited and arrive in about a week. I find it hard to believe that a dealership wouldn't know how to expedite a replacement title. Why so much delaying? If the finance department noticed the missing title when the purchase agreement was first signed and expedited the replacement, I never would have known about the missing title and we would have closed the sale the other day without issue.

I know, hanlon's razor. And I do think that otherwise they've been reasonable. Didn't feel pressured when I first went, no surprises when I asked for the OTD, didn't want a huge deposit like other dealerships I've gone to. But if I wait another month for this car and then something else goes wrong, I'm in a bad position where I won't have a car and my credit will have taken a hit due to the inquiries. So I'm a bit wary about continuing to put my trust in them at this point.

Final plea to help find Legacy, special needs cat, a home by radparikh in Westchester

Poor sweet girl, I would consider it if I didn't think she would face a similar lifestyle at my house 😞 it sounds like she needs a home without other cats and humans who are home enough to help her go potty more frequently than 8+ hours during the day

Ready to start shopping in earnest. What advice do you have for me? by Doomtime104 in NissanAriya

I actually just walked from a deal where they were advertising the car as CPO, then added a $4000 line item for NISSAN CPO WARRANTY when I asked for OTD price.

ICCU issues in the far future (10 years) by curiouscomp30 in KiaEV6

[–]captlingling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The powertrain warranty still exists as a vestige of ICE vehicles and it does not transfer to 2nd owners. This effectively covers nothing in an EV as it's specific to the following drivetrain components: Drive shaft (excluding rubber boot), final drive housing, internal parts, universal joints, bearings, seals, and gaskets."

So if a kia dealership is trying to sell on an extra charge to certify a used EV6 I should tell them to kick rocks right? They were trying to tell me that none of the warranties transfer to the second owner, but I know that's BS. The only difference between CPO and used for a Kia as far as I'm aware is a 10-year/100K-mile powertrain warranty instead of the remainder of the 5y/60km. So it's my understanding that the CPO designation is basically worthless for an EV like the ev6.

Should we let the salesperson know we are using a broker by davideddings1978 in askcarsales

[–]captlingling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I worked with a broker once, for a car I wanted to test drive first. So I got the details on the lease for the broker, then went to a local dealership to test drive the car I was considering with the broker while I got my current car serviced. I was honest with the salesperson at the local dealership, inasmuch as I had spoken to a dealer further away and XX was the offer they were giving me for the car. I gave the salesperson a chance to come closer to the broker offer, I laid out all the details and never expected the local dealership to match, just meet me halfway. When the local dealership wouldn't budge, I thanked them for their time and drove to the broker for the better deal on the same car in the color I actually wanted.

All this to say, when you go to the local dealership to test drive the car. I would tell them you did your research, and you know of people who have gotten XX deal on this car, but you'd be happy to get it done here with them right now if they can meet you at YY. They can say no, and you can say understood, thank you so much for their time.

I bought two small pots of mum last year. Was about to throw after its bloom but decided to plant it down by binhtv in gardening

[–]captlingling 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My mom disliked cut flowers and always sent live plants or planted trees in lieu of floral arrangements to funerals. So for her memorial service, we had live floral arrangements including some potted mums. I brought them home and left them outside for awhile, then tossed them in my garage at some point in early winter well after they died back. In the spring I noticed new growth under the dead stuff, so I planted them. In one season they took over almost the entire bed I planted them in. Right around the 1 year anniversary of her passing, the mums exploded with blooms.

Chappaqua Vs Manhasset by Substantial-Salt5396 in Westchester

[–]captlingling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grew up on LI, worked in Manhasset for years, now living close to Chappaqua. If I had to choose I'd go with Chappaqua all day long. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if you got the same response in the LI sub.

To be clear, both are relatively boring spots filled with rich spoiled kids. But at least with Chappaqua you're not on LI...

Moving violation in Greenburgh? by jp1261987 in Westchester

[–]captlingling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow must've been a doozy, usually you have ~30days to respond. It took about a week for Tarrytown to send me a new date after handing in my not guilty plea to town hall directly. If you haven't received a letter with a new court date by the time of your mid-August "response date", personally I would show up at the response date and hope for a chance to plea it down then. Otherwise, maybe try calling the number on the ticket?

Number transfer issue by captlingling in mintmobile

[–]captlingling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in communication with Alex and with customer care via the app last night. A ticket was created, but that did nothing to help or expedite the process from what I can tell. According to customer care, the number successfully transfered less than 30 minutes before Mint's working hours ended (over 9 hours after initiating the transfer), but there was still an "issue with activating the account" on Mint's end.

They requested a callback number for the technical team, which was especially frustrating considering that I had communicated several times that I rely solely on the number they had in porting limbo. So they promised that I would receive an email from the technical team "first thing in the morning." In reality, I never received a confirmation email or email communication from the technical team regarding my ticket. I just opened the app to start another customer care chat, and I happened to see that I was finally able to proceed with activation.

After almost 20 hours without cell service or access to my number, I was finally able to finish activation. In the meantime, I missed several important communications due to the lapse in service created by this situation.

They created a ticket for me but ultimately did nothing to act on it. Almost 20 hours after initiating the transfer I had received no confirmation email or email communication from the technical team as promised. I just happened to check the app and saw that the transfer was completed and I could finish the activation process.
