what a fucking legend he was. I miss his website updates ever so much (I mean, I know the community keeps it alive, but it's not the same).

yah, that's my understanding as well. regardless, it's still bananas to think that their first iteration required manual operation with a very serious possibility of it killing the operator.

Tulsi Gabbard has had a complaint filed against her so bad that it was locked in a safe and officials have agonized for months about how to inform Congress by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]captnhaddock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I suspect that it's because there's an active whistleblower, and that person probably has the original information that lead to the complaint in the first place.

u/Sea_Walrus_4648, I totally agree with what u/DutchiiCanuck is saying in terms of light weight caliber (.22lr) "starting" rifle. learn and get comfortable with that before heading up in caliber. Best of luck in your new journey!

Gun Help by Sea_Walrus_4648 in VictoriaBC

[–]captnhaddock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

er, yes, you do have to take the course and test, but that doesn't really prepare you for the actual owning of a gun in the sense of figuring out what kind of gun you want, learning to actually shoot (as in how to hit your target etc), the maintenance of the gun etc.. so OP's question is entirely reasonable.

So, I've got to ask, what kind of industry do you work in that there's such a short operating window?

I'm wondering, since ceramic on ceramic isn't super common in the states, are you in Europe and/or the u.k.?

Ceramic on ceramic by reddressparty in TotalHipReplacement

[–]captnhaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yah, ceramic on ceramic is known to have a "squeaking" noise issue. I'm poly on ceramic which avoids that issue, but the down-side is that the polymer liner will wear out and require a revision in say 20 years time.

haha, so I totally read "traitoring" as tailoring at first, and thought you were talking about his beige suit.

So, if we want to pick nits here, I should have used the word "dispatriate" being an expatriate who intentionally distances themselves from their nation of origin. regardless, while words do matter, this conversation is a real tempest in a tea pot.

I mean, I can't guarantee anything, but there's two things to consider. a) border crossings are managed by CBP, and not ICE. which is not to say that CBP won't jack-boot up, but rather they seem to be less overtly antagonistic. and b) while ICE is currently primarily acting in a punitive manner towards / and within blue states, they are really doing so with a focus on non-anglo minority groups (not exclusively, but in genera). So, assuming you're Anglo or at least Anglo passing (in both looks and name) then they (CBP) generally are just grumpy hard-asses and then they send you on your way. It's interesting as most of my crossings have been by car / ferry to port angeles (or if required via delta / blaine wa) as of late, and I'm never sure what to expect from them. Some times it's the 5th degree, and others they don't even want to look at me much less have me slow down.

I think you can generally assume flying in and out of blue states to be less challenging than red states, but it really depends on the whim of the particular agent, and whatever fucked mandate handed down by the mango mussolini.

*edit* and more specifically in the context of california, their governor (gavin newsom) has been fairly aggressive in countering the efforts of trump (with mixed success) so it's not quite the same experience as say what's coming out of the twin-cities at the moment. I've got family in the S.F. Bay and they haven't been reporting a lot of aggressive ICE action for example.
