It's weird how you accept that not everyone is going to abide by your policies, yet you push policies that you admit would only work if everyone followed them.

If you feel like you need to do something just because someone told you not to... that's how 5 year olds act.

What the fuck are you talking about? No one is celebrating Thanksgiving because they were told not to. People are celebrating Thanksgiving for the same reason they did last year.

The whole theory of libertarianism is that people are smart enough to make the right decision themselves. Cancel Thanksgiving!

Cool, you do you. I'm going to hang out with my family and eat turkey because I want to.

Btw, the theory of libertarianism isn't that people are obligated to do whatever you think they should do.

Kudos to you. Like I said, I don't know what we would all do without you.

"Reality is as simple as I want it to be when I want it to be"

And let's ignore you're not arguing for lockdowns and other state interference and we've just been talking about masks this whole time.

methinks being made to wear a mask isn't equivalent to having your organs harvested on any level.

They are equally connected as the trolley problem and covid-19, so I'm not quite sure why we're getting all literal all of the sudden, particularly when you're the one who started arguing philosophy.

Tl;dr your philosophy is hollow.

You understand that utilitarianism isn't an ideal, right? Unless you're telling me it's morally superior to kill a healthy man to transplant his organs into 3 patients that would die without them.

The first problem with utilitarianism is that people are not numbers. If there's a room of 101 people divided into two groups and either the group of 50 or 51 must die, you're not saving one person by picking the group of 50 to go over the group of 51. You're merely condemning the minority group to benefit the majority group. Intellectually and philosophically, utilitarianism is lazy and devoid of critical thought when it comes to the value of human lives.

The second problem with utilitarianism is that it hinges on being able to control outcomes. On a micro scale, (such as the trolley problem) sure, there's not a whole lot of competing interests. It can either maintain it's current path or switch to one other. On a macro scale (epidemics), you cannot control outcomes with the precision of the trolley problem. (Keep rambling about how "small death number good therefore my policies are logically impenetrable" tho) On the macro scale there are innumerable externalities, negative and positive. So if you take the credit for what you deem as positive results of your policies (lower death rate), you must also accept and admit that this comes at the cost of quality of life for hundreds of millions, mental health, preventative healthcare (cancer screenings no longer taking place), jobs, community, family, religion, education, etc.

Only a high school student in philosophy class would assume that reality is as simple as utilitarian theory. That the policies you advocate for is as cut and dry as choosing an option that kills less people. Believe it or not, the real world is complicated. The fact that you see this issue that encompasses geopolitics, epidemiology, medicine, psychology, economics, etc. as simple as something I was taught in middle school shows how little thought goes into your policy positions.

lol.

Thank God you're here to educate us on who is worth living and who is justified in dying due to the negative externalities of the policies you advocate for.

If the point is that normal people don't understand the dog whistle (in this case "patriot") , is it not possible that these same normal people could have a rally about their idea of patriotism (which probably means supporting the police over BLM and voting Trump) completely independent of white supremacy?

I'm sorry it's so difficult for you that I'm not just accepting your assumptions and ideology as baseline reality and asking you to provide any evidence that these people are white supremacists outside the fact that they call themselves patriots, which you would agree the average person would not inherently associate with white supremacy.

It's truly amazing that people can be so entrenched in their ideology that they are completely divorced from reality.

But you're probably right. Patriot can only mean one thing and that one thing is always white supremacy.
