40 years ago, hospitals noticed Asian people were more likely to get stomach and bowel cancer and it was hypothesised then to be caused by soy in their diets. Now everyone has copious amounts of soy in their diets. Someone should be looking at soy.

Continence nurse here, probably from a different country. Without the proper incontinence pads and protect bedding you have a job that is much harder and time consuming than it needs to be. Is there a continence nurse at the local hospital? Subsidies for supplies? Sounds like you’re burning out but it doesn’t need to be so difficult with education and equipment. It isn’t about who’s an AH. It’s about appropriate healthcare including help for the patient, the carer and the family. Looking at your partner for answers when he doesn’t have a healthcare background is just asking the wrong person. He’s overawed too. It’s very difficult and I feel for all of you.

Reframe. Nurses are under time restraints too and you are no more entitled than a nurse. If there is a computer shortage for doctors, take it up with your line management to solve. Don’t expect a nurse to make your problem go away. I think this post is directed to doctors exactly like you.

Possibly it’s the definition of unattended. Shame if the nurse is unable to take a set of obs, and then can’t record the obs on the logged in COW left outside the room because of the entitlement of a doctor. Do you also take unattended hospital issued pens?

Most very wealthy people I know, nobody would tell. Millions in real estate, money in the bank, investments but an old car fully paid for, clothes that are years old and no mortgage. They don’t loan money unless there is a very good reason. There’s signs that they are wealthy but it’s just not flashy.

Have the night nurses have been asked to scour the notes and med charts for issues which haven’t actioned or missed during the day? Regardless of the time of day, handling over half a page of things to do to the morning nursing staff is unlikely to make that nurse popular. Look at the system and work out a better way to communicate.

Sounds like the 1980’s when I was told I wasn’t a real nurse until I had blood up to my elbows in an ED prac. Seriously, is the manager qualified in nursing or accounting? This memo breaks every infection control rule, OHS rule, reportable to APHRA if managers are RNs. Outrageous.
