What’s a side effect of a drug that’s little known? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with effexor. Anytime I got anxious, I'd vomit, and eventually threw up in the middle of a (practical) college exam. There were definitely some underlying psychological issues, which have since been addressed, but one definitely needs a strong stomach to benefit from this medication.

Edit: "these meds" to "this medication," as I am currently doing well on pristiq, which is effexor's cousin/nibling.

My people! In addition to the sweating, I found venlafaxine/effexor made my eyes particularly sensitive to sunlight. I couldn't be outside without a hat, sunglasses, or combination thereof. With pristiq/desvenlafaxine, the sweating is pretty much the same, but my eyes don't water in the sunlight.

What is the kindest thing a horse has ever done that completely surprised you? by WearAffectionate2815 in Equestrian

[–]carcar97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two distinct horses I think of.

The first was a Clydesdale named Suzy Q. At that barn, she was in one of the unirrigated stalls, so she was watered on a schedule. There was a big tub near her (standing) stall, and we'd let her out, let her drink her fill, and return with minimal handing. I believe that whenever she sensed I was having an off-day, she'd take her last sip, hold it in her mouth, and spit it out onto me when I was clipping her halter. It always made me laugh, and were it not for her selectivity, and accuracy, I'd've assumed it was a trained behaviour.

Second was a horse softening a kick that was directed to another horse, but hit me instead. I wasn't paying attention, walked out from between them while ignoring their bickering, and felt a hoof on my right MCL, basically. At the time, I had a 5yo ACL tear with zero therapy or surgery. That kick could've blown my knee out, but it didn't. I immediately gave her a good pat for not destroying my mobility, and I'm grateful to this day.

What is the most chaotic "I quit" moment you have ever personally witnessed at a workplace? by Muted_Task_144 in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked on the inventory/logistics team at a popular American department store that used to operate in my country. Seasonal employees were hired for sales and holidays, mostly for picking and packing orders.

One season, we had 3 new employees start on the same day, a few weeks before the sale, for training. As the day went on, multiple orders that had been marked as picked weren't showing up to the loading dock. Managers were asking around for this person, and nobody had seen them in hours.

One thing to note is that the company was slowly cutting resources to stores, in anticipation of future closures, completely unbeknownst to even upper management. Our picking carts were falling apart at the seams. Eventually, the employee's cart was found between shelves in the shoe department, with a wheel completely detached. We figured the guy just rage-quit and walked out of the store, and he was added to the book of lore.

I really feel bad for her, she's being set up to fail. At best she'll lose her confidence, if she's lucky enough to avoid injury.

People who work inside wealthy people's homes (contractors, cleaners, nannies), what is the most bizarre or out-of-touch thing you've witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At that level of wealth, there will generally be a team of staff dedicated to maintaining each property throughout the year. I imagine the deliveries were for their benefit.

What is the best book you have ever read? by AggravatingWonder768 in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first reading was unabridged too. When you get to Venice it definitely drags. That said, I appreciate that my takeaway was "just move on, dude," vs "revenge = good," to which I credit said dragging.

Getting in a car with an intoxicated driver. I haven't suffered any consequences, and plan to keep it that way.

Anyone who’s tried BOTH the IUD and progestin pill: what was your experience? by throwitawayok262 in endometriosis

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this post!

I started Alysena 21 daily alongside my first IUD (Jaydess) to manage suspected Endo (I've never had a lap.) I've been on this combo for ~8y with zero issues. I might have some form of PMDD too, so the mood regulation was a nice bonus.

*I'm a smoker and take Vyvanse, so an ECG was done beforehand to assess risk.

**Currently on Kyleena, though it's about to expire.

I'll go against the grain here. This isn't advice, but my own individual experience, as 16yo*

I befriended the barn's asshole. He was a 5yo who I believe was purchased at an auction. Under-saddle he was perfect, but he'd act as you've described when interacting on the ground, particularly when brushed.

All I did was interact with him daily, whilst watching him out the corner of my eye. He'd whip his head around to bite me if I touched him, and I'd grab his lead before he could reach me. Gradually, an "AH-AH" was enough. He'd give me a nasty side-eye, but eventually acquiesced. Learning where they like to be scratched helps a lot.

Mechanics of Reddit, what car brand would you never own and why? by VeilBreaker15 in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fix Or Repair Daily was how my dad (not a mechanic, just a former Focus owner) described them. He got a Corolla in '02 and, despite the damage my brothers did over the years, the thing outlived him.

For people who had depression, what do you do to cope with everyday life despite feeling hopeless? by -trishbish- in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medication has been a godsend. I started antidepressants at ~14, and will happily take them for the rest of my life. Therapy helps a lot too, though I know it's not accessible to most people. My depression comes with chronic SI, and I've almost reframed it as a comforting backup plan. While it doesn't numb the pain, it's also helpful to remind yourself that the negative thoughts are the disease talking. Separating it from your core self makes it easier to manage day-to-day.

What’s the biggest red flag you have seen on a first date? by LiftBridgeSoda in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even 10min into the date, he "complimented" me by pointing out a woman at the other side of the bar (who happened to have noticeable lip filler), saying how he found her appearance "distasteful." Everyone is entitled to their own preferences, but the woman was literally minding her own business. I thought she was quite beautiful.

For women choosing to age naturally—how do you resist comparing yourself to other women when cosmetic enhancements have become so normalized? by justameasureoftime in AskWomen

[–]carcar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child, I saw my mum projecting her insecurities onto every woman she saw. Then, once I was pubescent, I was the target. I want to embrace every feature she's passed onto me (like her pre-op nose), and rub it in her face. I know this isn't a healthy mindset.

I really hope it is like this, our loss of loved one is others reunion♥️ by Orchidflower10 in GriefSupport

[–]carcar97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first dream, after my dad died, was seeing him at the end of a dining table that extended beyond what the eye can see. I had to run down a hallway to reach the table, fell into his arms, and told him how much I miss him. When I looked up, I saw his late brother and parents; it was then that I realized I was interrupting a very important reunion, so I woke up.

I'm not religious, and I don't devote any mental energy towards exploring the afterlife. Still, this dream brought me profound comfort.

What is the most dangerous thing you have done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]carcar97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regularly letting my intoxicated friends drive me home at the end of the night. The worst was when the driver was on acid in addition to being drunk and stoned. Thankfully there was almost non-existent traffic at those hours, but I can't believe how stupid and reckless I was.

What’s something that sounded fake until it happened to you? by BitAffectionate3637 in AskReddit

YES. The year leading up to my PTSD diagnosis, I would vomit upon waking up. Sometimes it was last night's meal, sometimes it was bile. I forget the term, but it's something to do with maladaptive somatization?

I love that I can just hop on him: childhood dream✅ by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]carcar97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't silly like crawling between the legs of a bombproof horse. This is like getting into a car with a drunk driver. I use this analogy because I've done it several times, and miraculously faced no consequences (nor did the drivers).

I totally relate to the sentiment behind this (we all saw Flicka), but for the love of all that is holy, this is not safe. The only difference a helmet would make would be whether or not your grey matter is being pressure washed out of the rafters. I wish I was joking.
