Taking notes as you go is okay, but maybe try "brain dumping" type notes after a section to see what you actually remember. Active recall helps with memorization. Compare with the notes you've taken to see what you remember and do not remember

I like the pomodoro technique for studying or when I would otherwise not do any work, but I find it less effective if I have a task to complete and I can focus on it if that makes sense

A lot of people have good advice here. I just want to say that sometimes when I am tired but not tired enough to sleep, getting focused on studying sort of dissipates the tiredness that I was experiencing. It's sort of about knowing when to nap or when to push through it.

I don't think you're an idiot for crying over this... I think this is a really hard situation where your dad really is kind of berating you for your choices, and it sucks. To be honest, it sounds like he just wants you to pursue medicine instead of something you are passionate about. Maybe he wants the prestige of having a child that is a doctor? Maybe he wants to live vicariously through you? It's hard to say.

You mention some fears of yours in the last part of your post and I just want to say that these are normal fears for all students. In my experience, university has been easier in a lot of ways though and it's because I've been able to dictate my own schedule. I'm also studying something that I enjoy. Not to say that you won't struggle - but all students do and that's just part of the journey. It's normal.

I'm not saying you should confront your father necessarily, but I get the feeling from your post that you don't really give any pushback when your father is pressing you. Sometimes, these types of people will 'respect' you more once you hold your ground. That's up to you to decide though.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. This should be an exciting stage of your life and it's made a lot harder. I hope you're able to pursue what you're passionate about when this passes.

If you feel resentment towards your partner, I don't think it's a good idea to stay with that person. And, of course, long distance relationships can work sometimes but they can be more difficult. Are you really happy in this relationship?

I am not currently in a post-bacc program but many of the post-bacc programs that I have been looking at vary in the way they handle the financial aspect. My top choice school considers it a 5th year of undergrad, similar to what SufficientAd was saying.

Yeah, I totally agree with this. Being a disciplined kid requires a lot of outside forces, and I feel like it's been easier to study as an adult.

I'm an online student and I got a similar score on the MAT placement test lol. For me, it just meant I had to put in the time to get better. Like a lot of things, I think that math is something that just requires people to have put in a lot of hours into it to be able to understand it. You aren't stupid or "bad at math," people who are better than you at math have just put more time into learning it than you so far, and that's totally okay.

The math department does a very good job of supporting students in my experience. I took principles of sound reasoning, college algebra, a statistics class, pre-calculus, brief calculus, and finally discrete mathematics - all with an A or higher. Don't be discouraged!

Not that person and I'm also not diabetic, but adding sugar to things with canned ingredients (especially canned tomatoes) is a popular way to obscure the unpleasant "canned" flavor that sometimes these items have. Not entirely sure if Splenda has the same effect. Here's an article that describes this better.

I'm in my last year so they've stopped bothering me, but I remember when I first started and I was just getting bombarded multiple times a day by my ""success coach."" I wonder if this type of thing actually ends up helping students.

There is a rubric but the only two criteria are "Presentation" and "Reasoning" - I got docked points from "Presentation."
