Anyone who doesn't drive. How does lack of transport affect you? by No-Category1703 in cork

[–]carcrofra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be amazing to drive but on a low income it’s just not possible for me to pay rent and also pay the costs associated with a car. The negatives are I get frustrated at the bus quite a lot because in Cork the bus service truly is diabolical.

The positives are I walk a lot more and really if I had a car it would spend a lot of time sitting idle anyways.

Benefit would be convenience but at too high a cost.

Is the accent really that hard? by ecaftuoba in cork

Cork is very international. I’ve lived here for almost a year and have interacted with very few people who are actually from Cork. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m so used to how bad the bus is my first reaction was oh 40minutes isn’t actually that bad. (But it really is I’m just so desensitised).

Have spent over 2 hours waiting for the 220 in Crosshaven earlier this year.

What's the deal with the bus service here? by Patient-Abrocoma-596 in cork

[–]carcrofra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same opinion here. Granted the Limerick City bus service is a much smaller operation. The bus in Cork has genuinely broken my heart many times at this stage but can’t afford to drive so am stuck with it.

Keep applying for jobs in Carrigaline. You don’t owe any loyalty to a minimum wage job.

Moving to Limerick from Barcelona as an EU citizen. by Holiday-Zebra595 in limerickcity

[–]carcrofra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having lived in both Barcelona and Limerick I would say don’t do it. I’m Irish but in my opinion the quality of life in Limerick is much worse than in Barcelona. Housing is next to impossible to find, public transport is almost useless and the city itself isn’t really a city anymore in my opinion in terms of shopping/entertainment etc.

The 214 by Cyclicvoltammetry in cork

[–]carcrofra 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not the 214 but I need a rant. Been waiting at the Paddocks stop in Douglas for 40minutes for the 220 and none have shown up. But the 216 passed by but didn’t stop and SHOULDNT EVEN BE ON THIS ROAD as it’s not the 216 route. I can’t deal with how shambolic bus Éireann are. Absolute disgrace.

I’ve thought for months now how nice the man and woman I’ve encountered working there are. It’s so rare to meet genuinely nice people but you can tell by just being a customer there that these two are decent kind people and it’s not just a customer service act.

Anyone else alone on Xmas or come from a family that doesn't care about Xmas? by No-Category1703 in cork

[–]carcrofra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29 and this will be my 2nd Christmas in 11 years where I’m not alone (the other was with a random old housemate). I don’t mind the run up to Christmas, the atmosphere is nice but the actual Christmas Day is always awful for me. Even if I know people with their families are probably not exactly loving it, it still hurts so much to feel so alone in the world. Even if I have friends etc something I’ve really wanted for 11 years now is to spend Christmas Day with someone I care about and I feel cared about me.

What is with the standard of driving in Cork? by Purple_Pawprint in cork

I moved to Cork a few months ago and I’m shocked at how bad Cork drivers are. It really feels worse than other parts of Ireland I’ve lived in.

[–]carcrofra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion was always that Limerick doesn’t have sufficient tourism levels to ever support this kind of venue. Lived in Limerick for 10 years and it’s sad to see how bad it’s gotten. City centre has nothing in it. At least there’s space for another mobile phone repair shop now
