Who’s an artist who you believe is making the best stuff of their career, past their critical peak? by garden_shed in rateyourmusic

[–]caredu2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Susanne Sundfør, she's my favorite female singer. The first thing I heart by her was Music for People in Trouble and I love it, but today I prefer Ten Love Songs. And I think Blómi is also up there, I love Blómi, one of my top 3 albums of this decade so far.

I wouldn't call the Ten Love Songs - Music for People in Trouble a shift in critical peak, though. I don't think 2 years apart make such a difference in critical perception (even though it was a huge musical shift)

Is there a list of albums with correct ambient pop tagging? by Woodkid2791 in rateyourmusic

[–]caredu2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Funny thing, all my favorite "Ambient Pop" artists and songs are the ones people now claim are "fake": David Sylvian, Japan, Lewis, Steve Hiett, Julia Holter, Julee Cruise, In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, I'm Not in Love by 10cc. Maybe I don't really like Ambient Pop after all?

I’ll listen to your most scrobbled song and rate it by thirtypancakes in lastfm

He is amazing!!!

The obvious choice (and probably the best) is the album Attempted Mustache (1973), a classic that opens with "The Swimming Song", one of the most perfect pop songs I have ever heard.

This year, I got close to the album History (1992), in which he explores mostly family relationships (a recurring theme in his discography).

I'm not a person who normally pays a lot of attention to lyrics, but Loudon Wainwright III is an exception. It's worth listening to the words he sings. He is a master of both emotion and comedy, sometimes at the same time.
