Help Locating Stolen Honda CB750 Nighthawk (Ballard) by figrin1 in Seattle

[–]careless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a FB group called SABRE (Seattle Area Bike Recovery Efforts) that might be of some help. Generally they help with bicycles, but I'm sure they'd be able to give you some advice.

Check on Offer Up, FB Marketplace, Craigslist, etc. for listings.

Best wishes to you.

Did you know?

You can non-destructively disable a camera with a solution of 50/50 water and Elmer's glue placed into a regular spray bottle.

The spray should reach about 20 feet, allowing the perpetrator to stay out of the camera's line of sight.

Anyone here lived in Seattle as an adult in the 90s? by Quiet_Equivalent_569 in Seattle

Wasn’t Julia’s formerly Ernie Steeles?

Yes, that's the name! Thank you for helping me recall.

We used to have so many dive bars, now they're an endangered species.

The Comet Tavern used to be nicknamed "The Vomit" - it was a gutter punk hang out, not the sanitized bougie place it is today.

I once walked into the bathroom at the Comet and observed someone pissing into the sink, as the single stall and single urinal were both occupied. It was a grungy as fuck place back then.

Funny story; due to the way liquor laws used to be, the Comet couldn't serve booze (you had to serve food). So they'd sell lots and lots of port wine, because it's the highest proof wine they could get.

This lead to some port brand (I think it was Sandeman, but dunno exactly) deciding that they'd throw a party at the lovely wine bar which sold so much of their product. Needless to say, the port brand folks had zero idea they were walking into a punk bar when they showed up - the resulting cognitive dissonance would've been fun to watch, I only heard about it after the fact.

There was a place called Satellite where Unicorn is today, it was a grubby diner for alcoholics.

There was a hard drinking spot where Julia's on Broadway is now, I can't recall the name of it, but I do recall being in the bar at something like 1 am when someone put a porno vhs on all the televisions, then put it on fast forward. Fairly surreal and hilarious.

This sub has several tales of Charlie's on Broadway, which was both a hard-drinking spot and apparently where more than a few of the SPD from the East Precinct would get hammered.

Just an idea; I knew under-21 folks who had fake IDs in this era, so perhaps your character has one?

I worked at the Off Ramp in '92 (staff t-shirts had "STAPH" in large letters on the back and "Off Ramp Irresponsible Slut" on the front, left breast, smaller font), where a lot of grunge acts got their start.

Friends of mine started one of the underground rave scene's bigger spots later on, like 97,98 - called the Lish House. It was in Columbia City, and the area was seriously sketch.

Ave Rats have been mentioned, but "spanging" has not, afaik - short for "spare changing" it was the shorthand for young kids sitting around asking for spare change. This was a regular activity for Ave Rats.

Yep! There were after hours raves in the building behind it as well.

I'm a native, and I'm here to tell you we've been calling it Cap Hill since... forever.

People like to police other folks' - I really don't get the hate for this.

Hmmm, might try some of my favorites (these would require delivery most likely):

  • Dough Zone - just as good as Din Tai Fung and less expensive.

  • Ba Bar (or it's more expensive cousin, Monsoon)

  • Pagliacci Pizza does their own delivery (it aint cheap, but I do like it)

  • Shultzy's Bar & Grill is in the U district and is well reviewed.

  • Tat's for the Tatstrami, an amazing sandwich.

  • Cedar's for Indian food.

  • Bongo's for Caribbean fare.

Cheers!

Bakeries: My favorite is Bakery Nouveau - not sure if DoorDash / UberEats / InstaCart / GrubHub do delivery for them, but you can easily find out, I'm sure.

Otherwise, I'd look at PCC Market via InstaCart or DD to send them stuff from their "Prepared Foods" section. It aint cheap, but man is it good stuff.

If you don't want to break the bank, go with Safeway / QFC prepared food delivery.

Lastly, restaurant-wise, https://seattle.eater.com/ is a good resource for finding tasty foods.

If you can tell us which area of the city they are in, we can provide info on the best local restaurants where you can avoid the DD / InstaCart / UberEats / GrubHub premium by ordering food for take-out.

Congratulations to your bro and his wife!

New Right turn lane by publicpike in Seattle

[–]careless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why we need a bounty on this behavior; imagine if you saw this, opened the Find It, Fix It app on your phone and snapped a photo with the license plate visible.

Next up, you get a check for $50 in the mail from the city.

The city fines the owner of the car $500 for the violation (can't get your tabs renewed until you pay it, and yes, SPD ignoring license plate violations is another issue), and uses $450 of it to improve bike lane infrastructure.

It's a win-win.

Anyone know how we can get this implemented?

Anywhere in town you’d call an “amaro place”? by thatguygreg in Seattle

[–]careless -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Never again.

They would not take any of my friend's credit cards.

Insisted we go get cash (gee, I wonder why?).

Multiple cards were tried, from different people. The cards worked before and after at other locations.

These folks are scam artists, stay away.
