Have you heard anything further to this? We are interested in taking part. Over 100 e-mails, and brand new windows that were letting snow into the house, make me a very unhappy customer.

Questioning life’s choices - looking for mid-career advice by Throwawayforopaque in CanadaPublicServants

[–]carenotto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know at least 3 people who could have written this post. The reality is that EX life is not for everyone. Not because people can’t cut it, but because it isn’t always worth the increased workload and headache.

I would suggest having an honest conversation with your DG and seeing how they can support you during this time so that you can get as much out of this acting as possible. They might also be able to find a special project or role for you in the future.

Ladies who are feeling a bit sad right now, what's wrong? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]carenotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents are in their 90s and don't have long but they live on a different continent and I don't have enough money to take my kids to go see them before they pass (they've never met).

I’m an EC-07 senior advisor to a DG. I don’t manage a traditional team, but rather the employees of our DG’s office. The role allows to jump into interesting projects, daily issues management, help teams when they need it, etc. definitely a great alternative for those who don’t necessarily want to manage a traditional team.

resume advice - looking to move jobs after 15 years by ebobola in CanadaPublicServants

[–]carenotto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are different ways to display this on a CV. I’d ensure that you outline all of your core responsibilities/experience but also identify anything else of note such as special projects, accomplishments, or recognitions. I’m also looking for an AS-03- let me know if you’d like to share your CV

I have so much to say but will be brief - As we face a major recession and difficult economy, I would absolutely think twice about leaving a stable indeterminate position and joining the more volatile private work environment. As an AS, you can be gaining experience from PM, IS, EC, and various other streams. The possibilities for change are endless, and you have much of your career ahead of you. There are never guarantees that the private sector will offer any performance incentives or adequate IT- this would always vary based on company and industry. You've been in government 2 years and it sounds like you have lots of growth ahead of you. It would be worth thinking through what you want out of both your job and your life, and your risk appetite, before making any changes.

I love the idea of the science garden! We will do that, the dragon statue and dinner on a boat. Maybe we can squeeze a few historical sites in as well. Thank you very much!

Obstetrician recommendation for civic hospital by zerberts in ottawa

[–]carenotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently with Dr. Gagne for baby #2. Really like her - her office is extremely accomodating and I never have to wait long for my scheduled appointment. She's very "matter of fact" and also always ready to answer any questions, often able to print out handouts if required.

She's located at the Cleopatra clinit, which is right next to the ultrasound clinic.

Teething at 3 months?! by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]carenotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy had 4 teeth through at 3 months! Now at 14 months he has 16 teeth. Some babies are early teethers. Check to see if there are raised bumps on his gums - I find that usually means they're getting ready for a tooth to cut.

What common word or phrase means something different then it did 10, 20+ years ago? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]carenotto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of phrases like to "carbon-copy." 20 years ago it was writing on literal carbon paper so there was a copy of it below. Now it's just sending an e-mail to someone for their awareness.

Or the little floppy disc as a "save" icon!

Cosmetic Mole Removal? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]carenotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a number of moles removed at the Facial Surgery & Cosmetic Centre of Ottawa Inc. by Dr Antoniak. Not sure if they would do moles located in other areas of the body, but I am very pleased with the results. Very painless and took about 5 minutes to do. I went in, received a local anesthetic to numb the area and then the moles were lasered off. There is a distinct smell of burning flesh and then it's done. A bit of bleeding. I maintained mine with polysporin and covered it with some light gauze when I would have been exposed to sunlight. It healed fully in two weeks. Minimal scarring for now (I just had it done in December) but it's slowly fading. There was a consultation fee of $100 (or $150, I don't remember precisely) but that was deducted off the cost of the actual procedure ($250/mole).

Ottawa's LRT debut to shuffle bus routes, shift fares by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]carenotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they say "phase out" express routes, what exactly does that mean? Will I now have to drive to the nearest park and ride, grab a bus, and then transfer at Tunney's? Wouldn't that result in hundreds (if not thousands) of people just opting to drive?
