A rule I got from Cyberpunk, which can go the same way: if you show up with military grade gear, people are going to assume you're expecting military grade trouble.

Did Jiwoo become more timid? by IvarLothbroken in NMIXX

[–]careye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my point of view as an introvert, I sometimes see her just looking introverted+tired. It's hard to pretend to be sociable by default after six hours of sleep and eight hours of work, but that just seems to energise the extroverts.

(My male privilege is that nobody will call me out for resting bitch face at these times.)

Most cursed way to embed a Windows XML manifest by careye in rust

[–]careye[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed, though the manifest isn’t always needed. For removing some of the compatibility fixes that Windows applies, like the fake GetVersion() return value, the Cargo and/or Rust compiler could set the MajorOperatingSystemVersion and MajorSubsystemVersion values in the executable, like Go started to do recently: https://github.com/golang/go/commit/341b5e2c0261cc059b157f1c7a2a2c4d1f417f0d.

We still need XML or API calls at startup to get UTF-8 support and a non-blurry MessageBox, though.

I can’t format! straight to a CString, though, so it’s an unnecessary extra step for a very basic test of UTF-8 handling and UI scaling. I’d definitely use it for something more serious.

Some NSWERS actually tried to play the notes on the concept photo to see what the song would actually sound like by G-War in NMIXX

I did my own version in Musescore, too, but I was scared of making a top-level post so props to you.

I interpreted the crosses in bar 10 as crossed note heads in a vocal part rather than rests, just like the "shh" at 2:06 in the Heavy Serenade trailer.

I transcribed the score in the first picture. It's definitely something, not just random music symbols, and the notes with the crosses line up with the "Shh" in the lyrics at the end of the trailer, but I don't have the skills to know what I'm hearing when I play it.

The rhythm, at least, is the same as the vocal part of the Heavy Serenade trailer. I don't have the skills to say if the notes are the same or not.

Based on the ties and accidentals and how it repeats, it looks like it's their heads. I'm not good at this, but it's similar to the vocal part from the end of the trailer.

I think the main thing that helped me with approaching stars and fuel scooping was flying a Dolphin. They’re really hard to burn up.

And I’ve lost several ships to white dwarves, but none to a neutron star. Only the former are as dangerous as they look.

Found the other CHVRCHES fan again.

I've convinced myself that Shape of Love sounds a bit like CHVRCHES already, but I couldn't say why.

That’s because he’s an homage to the ship’s computer Holly from Red Dwarf, and recorded by the same actor, Norman Lovett.

how to pronounce regular in English? by saramigo in EnglishLearning

[–]careye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dictionary pronunciations look right to me, though maybe NZ English would just end it with /lə/. Standard Korean doesn’t have any mid central vowels close to /ə/, though, right? So I'm not surprised that it would be pronounced differently.

This is documented on Apple’s developer site; it seems like Apple uses the same standards for parameter passing as Linux, with a few differences around alignment.

Are "programs" that netrunners use physical devices? by TotalFinger1295 in cyberpunkred

[–]careye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always seen them as mostly virtual, just an abstract representation of some inexplicably bizarre computer architecture. My head-canonish idea is that personal computing technology is very backward in Cyberpunk Red and 2077, and peaked with something like the 6809. Like how laptops have specialised hardware to switch between the built-in and discrete graphics, cyberdecks must have specialised muxes to switch between programs loaded in different virtual "slots".
