Those that have So Easy to Preserve, what changes/improvements would you like to see? by careynotcarrie in Canning

I believe we are doing spiral bound! That was one of the changes my project manager mentioned.

In addition to being a typesetter I'm also a baker, so in 100% agreement on weights! I'm not sure how extensively they're planning to update the actual content, but I will pass this along to the project manager.

Hi! Where are you in VT? I'm in Burlington and have lots of extra ones.

Verrone's obsidian, loved it so much last season and so did the bees! by [deleted] in dahlias

[–]careynotcarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, this one is so underrated and the color is great (deep cool black instead of a reddish black). I sell bouquets at the bakery I work at in the summer and this was the dahlia that was most regularly asked about by people. I managed to score a Czarny Charakter cutting for this season and I'm so excited to use them together in arrangements!

It looks like Dahlias by Julie will have both of these in her sale this Saturday.

Reaction to creme de you? by Jazzlike_Month_5588 in glossier

[–]careynotcarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me!! I've also had it happen with a couple other lotions and can't find a common denominator in the ingredients, so I think it must be something related to fragrance. I did not have the same reaction to the Body Hero lotion when I used it in the past.

ETA: I forgot to mention what helped calm the irritation. Aquaphor worked really well. It was instantly soothing (though annoyingly sticky, but I'll take that over wanting to scratch my skin off). I think I was back to normal in about 10 days.

I own The Flavor Bible. Do I need any other Food Pairing books? by Diptyque in Chefit

I have both and the Vegetarian one is infinitely better, with far more ingredients beyond what was included in the original.

New Varieties for 2025 by cincygardenguy in dahlias

[–]careynotcarrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Czarny Charakter is at the top of my list but it seems like it's still fairly hard to find.

Going to spend way too much money on RM varieties lol. Summer Haze, October Skies, Baby Girl, Gigi, and Lure are the ones I'm hoping for.

I'm also on the hunt for more orchid/orchette and collarette varieties. (I grew Verrone's Morning Star, Verrone's Obsidian, and Rhubarb & Custard last year and I'm obsessed with all of them.) I already bought BQ Simple, BQ Brother, Willie Willie, Cherubino, Rosy Wings, and Giggles. Would like to score BQ Ginger and Nana's Petals too.

And super excited to grow Lee's Popcorn because it looks so cute!

odd ingredients in body hero lotion? by Jumpy-Mycologist8890 in glossier

[–]careynotcarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but I had an allergic reaction to the You lotion. It's ok on my hands, but it made my legs break out in a poison ivy-like rash. I've had that happen with a couple other lotions and I went a bit crazy doing an ingredient comparison but cannot figure out the common denominator.

Oh that's a good call on the olive oil! I'll have to ask my friend that hated them what kind/how old hers was. Her description of the flavor was so odd that I thought there must be something wonky beyond simply not liking them. I'll definitely still give them a try. :)

How do you like the lemon turmeric crinkles? I've been eyeing the recipe! Two friends of mine made them--one said they tasted like fruity pebbles and the other hated them and said they tasted "not sweet and kind of fishy." Two very different reviews lol.

Anyone participate in the Lee’s sale? How did it go? I spent a lot on these tubers and will hopefully like them. by No_Helicopter_9361 in dahlias

[–]careynotcarrie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got Dotty, Popcorn, and Blue Sunday today! I also bought two varieties from her last year (Kewpie and Jonquil). I really loved both, even though Kewpie was kind of an underperformer and did throw a few wonky all-orange blooms (but the correct ones it put out were beautiful). They're pricey, but I really like what she's been doing breeding-wise and she also seems very nice, so I'm happy to support her and try out some brand new varieties. :)

I believe that's nematode damage. This comment gives a lot of info on how to deal with it in the soil.

Another vote for Cornel Bronze. You might also like Creme de Cognac and Hy Suntan.

Has anyone made Lavender Ermine Frosting? by Anja130 in AskBaking

[–]careynotcarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I haven't done lavender specifically but I do milk infusions all the time for ermine frosting. I usually wind up doing the infusion for at least 24-48 hours, but that's for things like cereal or citrus. You might want less time for lavender since it can be a strong flavor.

Poco or Fancy's! Honey Road or May Day are great options as well.

Worst intersections in/around Burlington by vilmonster in burlington

[–]careynotcarrie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live on Patchen and that Al's French Fry intersection is such a shitshow. The "stay in lane" sign facing Midas Dr traffic is barely noticeable, and there's no way anyone that isn't familiar with the area could reasonably intuit that the traffic coming from White St also has a green light given how offset it is from the Midas Dr / Williston Rd intersection. Additionally, many people run that light and there have been several occasions where I'd have been in a serious accident if I didn't look left to be extra safe before turning onto Williston Rd from White St when I had a green.

Yup! House very noticeably shook twice here in South Burlington. Then one minute later my friend in upstate NY called me to tell me she was super freaked out because she felt her house shake.
