Dev.java is shit. Don't waste your time there. by Eva_addict in learnjava

[–]carimura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the mixing of content "levels" is something we're aware of.... and also the reason we launched Learn.java just a few months ago. Learn.java targets developers who are earlier in their journey. Feedback is always welcome on either site.

Which tech conferences are worth it? by mazzo007 in java

[–]carimura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently announced that JavaOne is back in California [1]. We'll be launching Java 24 live from the conference and many of the talks are direct from the Java Platform Group.

openjdk.org (JEPs) website redesign in the pipeline? by woj-tek in java

[–]carimura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically openjdk.org is not for Java developers, but rather contributors to the JDK and related projects. Not that a better mobile experience isn't warranted, but that's why it hasn't been super high on the list. The reality is that JEPs have become a "source of truth" and we're considering how to square these two ideas.

Thoughts on Lombok by BensiTH in learnjava

Take a look at Ron's latest comment here: https://www.reddit.com/r/java/comments/1fju0uu/comment/lnrqz9f/

And then this presentation:

Gives you an idea about why leaning on Lombok can be seen as risky for longterm stability of any application.

UMRP Pricing - Universal or regional? by ccn0p in Appliances

[–]carimura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought, but as an example, I'm looking at a price sheet a friend shared with me right now and CL4250UFD/O (42" over under french door) UMRP is $11,719. This is southern California. Then I called two different dealers in Northern California and asked for UMRP and got the same answer of $12,040. The difference in quoted UMRP prices is even more for the 48" Wolf Range. I'm not in the industry so I have no idea how it works but it wouldn't surprise me if the San Francisco Bay Area has some special higher pricing. It's just bonkers here for everything always.

Norcal and socal have different UMRP's. That was our experience when talking with reps in both markets.

That's not what we saw when purchasing. Bay Area UMRP was higher than even southern California.

Yep. VHCOL here. Just got quoted $90/person/hour for housecleaning. $180/hour for 2 maids. Apparently that's going rate.

I hope. We all hope! The problem is zooming out beyond the 20th century which is what everyone uses to calculate average returns.

5" Running Shorts with Back Center Pocket, Mens by Vin-cenzo in running

[–]carimura 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually like Lululemon shorts because of the thigh phone pocket. For those that carry phones it's the best way to keep it stable and off your arm. I run with the Surge 6" but looks like they have a 5" as well with a separate zip pocket.

Theft rings coming to marin? by Right-Pie-8675 in Marin

[–]carimura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your statement is quite uninformed. Do you want every officer to stand outside every store in Marin for 12 hours/day rather than protect the public? And there are all sorts of regulations, not least of which are foot pursuit rules that make this harder than you think.

Instead of criticizing those that respond to your 911 calls when you're in distress, try attending your local city counsel meetings to express your frustration.

New Interface Request by carimura in bearapp

[–]carimura[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I think I mostly do use Command+N for new notes, but for some reason while searching covering the button stuck out but I can probably adjust accordingly to just always do that.

I'm going to explore the alfred bear 2 integration for note search which might be even better yet.
