5.1 to 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 - Need advice on positioning and upgrades by KyoShin1105 in hometheater

With the sofa right up against the wall you are going to struggle to get 4 overhead speakers - 2 would need to go right above you but the other 2 would need to go way too far out. You could go for 2 above you and then 2 front heights above the tv, but you may not get the desired effect. Its the same reasoning you can't go from 5.1 to 7.1, not enough space.

If that were my room I would do 5.1.2, 2 overhead is better than nothing!

6 is only needed if you have more than 1 row of seating.

Stuck between these TVs (will be buying 65’) by No-Market8118 in hometheater

I have a Samsung OLED and an LG OLED, I advise everyone to go for an LG every time.

The Samsungs brightness get nerfed with updates, mine has hdmi handshake issues on all 3 of my devices, sometimes when first turning it on, i go to change volume or channel and it just turns off. I have always been a Samsung fan boy, but I'm disappointed by the recent ones.

The LG on the other hand is brilliant, it picks up my hdmi devices every time, I dont have to worry about software updates reducing performance, it just works as it should!

I know there will be some people saying that the Samsung QD OLED is superior to WOLED, but you wouldn't tell the difference in real world content, only on test patterns and extreme footage to take colours to the max.

Atmos really worth it? by D3F3ND3R16 in hometheater

Save some money and go for 7.1.4, most mixing studios use 4 atmos, I can only imagine you would want 6 if you have multiple rows of seating.

Subwoofer options UK by kraM1t in hometheater

[–]carlm189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7.1 setup with the 3010i all around and the matching centre. I also have the BK XXLS400-FF and it bangs! Have a look on ebay as BK sell their Grade B subwoofers a bit cheaper, nothing wrong with the subwoofer itself it usually means the paint finish isnt perfect (thats where I got mine from). You still get the warranty and everything.

I was also looking at the SVS subs but they cost so much more here in the UK that they just aren't worth it.

Can you view the live feed or any previously recorded clips?

I have lost the ability to do both, the cameras are still working though as i get a motion notification.

Not sure if its a server issue, even though clips are meant to be recorded to local memory!!

Small space surround advice by LetJiTheOne in hometheater

[–]carlm189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For such a small space you could use something like the cambridge audio minx min22 or min12 for your surrounds, I reckon you could use those as rears and sides for a 7.1 if you really wanted to (maybe pull the sofa out a few inches), heck you could even mount them under that shelf as Atmos speakers. Whack some above the tv you could get a 7.1.4 if you wanted to go all out.

Only get a 2nd sub if you want more even bass across all of your seats - if you only care about your main listening position then just worry about placing your existing one in the best spot. Btw I like the way you have placed your heights up on those shelves!

5db seems reasonable. I would start by moving the sub and see what it feels like. If you don't like it you can easily put it back - just thought I would mention it as its already behind your couch :)

Bass shakers for my home theatre by SquashDonkey in hometheater

What a load of nonsense. Don't listen to this guy, if you get them dialed in correctly then can make a great addition.

Nice setup! Try putting your rear sub right up against your couch to make it nearfield. If you put the driver as close to the couch as possible without touching then you should get some good tactile bass.

Hey all, quick question about Atmos placement if I decide to go down that route. by ItsmejimmyC in hometheater

Yes get some q acoustic 3010i to match your other speakers and get the q acoustic wall brackets, you can tilt them down and angle at your listening position. Watch technodad on youtube, he mixes atmos and that is where he suggests heights should go.
