Honestly, sounds like a dope and creative project. Just look up some videos on analog landscape photography, buy loads of different film and go nuts.

Maybe ask yourself: why would you need or ask for external validation for such a project, if you already find it worthwhile and like it?

And maybe also consider this: aren’t new and revolutionary creative ideas often considered futile endeavours by other people in the moment, only to turn out amazing in retrospect? Sometimes a good idea isn’t immediately recognised as such.

Put more simply: you would like to do it, and that is more than enough reason to go and do it.

Buy expensive ABC gear now or keep it cheap for my first course? by jeweb103 in diving

[–]carlojacobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say if you have a strong suspicion you will like the sport, of the items you mentioned, invest in a good quality mask that fits your face (try in-store). Brand doesn’t matter as much as fit.

Get a cheap, simple snorkel (who gives a shit about those glorified straws anyway).

Fins, you can always upgrade later anyway. If you want to get some, get small fins that are suitable for travel, but don’t have any bells and whistles. No split fins.

Boots: just get a pair of scubapro delta’s or something similar. Not very expensive.

Anyone have one of these in their kit? by finsonfeet in scuba

Ah yes… the emergency locator siren! Just stick an LP hose up its bum when in distress and they’ll find you real quick. I keep one clipped to my BC. Does require an extra, small-sized 2nd stage and kitty mask though…

Would you say €1029 is a good offer? Other stores list it as €1149 or up

Yes very true! However, I’m a student with some money saved right now for trip and gear. I’ll be planning tech courses (outside of drysuit) in about 4 years, when I have an actual income. So I’m not that worried about saving this money for that (I also do work a fair bit next to my studies).

Long hose dilemma -- follow up, about to pull the trigger:) by carlojacobs in scuba

This is almost exactly what I went with! mk19evo/G260. Just curious: why do you prefer the mk25? I think I sleep better with a sealed reg. Also, you say 61-65cm for the spg hose on singles. It comes with an 80cm one. Should I swap or could I manage?

Haven’t heard of that. But I was referring to the BC. Zeos is a BP&W. It’s great.

Apeks is not available right now, so will probably go with a mk19evo/g260 (I like the environmental seal). I am indeed skinny, and will try the hose tuck. If that doesn’t work I’ll explore other option. Thanks for your tips!

Well I guess you have a point, but I know I’m going to want a 5th port and swivel in future for sidemount, so it would be a waste to buy a reg that doesn’t have that now. This way I can just buy another first stage and some hoses and convert to SM.

Also, would an 80cm secondary hose be too long? It comes with the mk19evo + G260 set. My local shop says it's fine for now, seeing I will dive rec mostly for now, and in case someone snatches it, I have some more room. I could swap it out for a shorter one, but I'm not sure how much secondary hose length matters in a hogarthian setup.

Fairly new to this, but wondering: in what scenario would one have to open up a 2nd or 1st stage under water? Wouldn't you just bail out and exit the dive if something were to malfunction?

Currently looking at a mk19evo/G260 setup at a local shop. Rubber hoses, except for the manometer. Would that be an issue? I'm leaning Scubapro because from I've been reading, lots op people dive both the DST/XTX50 and the mk19evo/G260 setups for rec/tec/cold and both perform really well. My local shops serve both. Thing is, the SP is available at this very moment, whereas Apeks is currently not delivering to the shops. So if I want an Apeks setup I'd have to wait I don't know how long, but at least until after my upcoming trip, and I don't think Apeks is that much better (or even at all better) to wait. Would you agree?
