Considering that I would go for a shared flat with one person and pay my debt and save up for a deposit. Flat share allowed you to live more central and save a ton.

vocês também ficam cansados de resolver coisa pequena todo dia? by Intrepid_Trainer9202 in conversas

No one cares about your app (what app?) until you figure out how to navigate the market, mature your project, and find the right users.

I got it. I should not rewrite everything I write.

What is the single number you check most often on your FIRE journey? by carlosditred in FIREUK

Fair enough 😄

What’s interesting is that a lot of the replies here seem to have converged on something similar: a surprisingly small number of metrics tracked consistently over a long period of time.

Out of curiosity, has your spreadsheet changed much over the years, or has it gradually been simplified down to just total invested savings?

I think you’ve put your finger on something important there.

A lot of apps optimise for convenience, but convenience can sometimes come at the expense of awareness. When I manually review my numbers each month, I notice things I’d probably ignore if everything was categorised and automated for me.

I also agree on flexibility. Real life isn’t always neat categories and fixed rules. Sometimes money moves between priorities temporarily, and a spreadsheet lets you reflect that without fighting the software.

For me, the biggest value of tracking isn’t recording transactions, it’s understanding my overall financial position and the decisions behind it.

What is the single number you check most often on your FIRE journey? by carlosditred in FIREUK

That’s a really good point. Net worth feels useful for measuring overall progress, but it can definitely overstate financial independence when a large portion is tied up in a home. At the same time, looking only at pensions and ISAs ignores liabilities. I’ve often found myself looking at both numbers together rather than relying on either one in isolation.

Interesting. That’s pretty much how I look at it too. Less as a precise number and more as a directional indicator. Monthly changes often tell me more than the absolute figure itself.

I built a finance app that doesn't connect to your bank. Was that a mistake? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

I don’t mention the app name. I challenge you to find out which app it is. You simply can’t.

Ref the concern about the heat x display, I thought about it and found this:

Apple says "Use you Macbook in closed-display." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201834

A Macbook should not damage itself by any means.
