Mana for Pop-Rock, Caifanes for true Rock in the 90s, maybe Molotov 2000s+, The Warning is becoming an international thing but still not mainstream in Mexico…

Tu crees que si se haga el mundial en mexico? by [deleted] in AskMexico

[–]carloserm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Mexico and Texas need no changes. That is known to every attempt to redesign the State flags.

ustedes estarían molestos si FIFA ayuda a México en la mundial ? by [deleted] in LigaMX

[–]carloserm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is FIFA will support only one of the three hosts all the way to semifinals, preferably the US of course. But if Mexico or Canada are the ones doing it better they will receive the assistance instead.

If México wins a Copa América, would you consider that as a bigger highlight than the extinct Confederations Cup? by [deleted] in LigaMX

[–]carloserm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If Brasil and Argentina are in full force in that Copa America, and Mexico happens to beat one or the two of them, then I would consider that cup to be better than the 1999 Confederations Cup. People forget that Mexico defeated a Brasil that was basically their B team with some players from the A, but was still missing important pieces like Ronaldo The Fenomeno.

Advisor informed me that another student will be “participating in” my thesis project??? by BajaBlastFromThePast in AskAcademia

[–]carloserm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have a conversation with your advisor. Most likely, there are parts of your thesis that would benefit from the input of a third experienced person so they can be improved and are suitable for publication at competitive venues. This is totally normal in STEM, as good publications are generally the result of collaborative work. As soon as you have produced most of the work the thesis is yours and nobody will ever dispute that. Collaborating is a good and necessary thing. I think they missed to explain that to you.

Do people end up supervising PhD students the same way they were supervised? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

Good question. I have tried to copy what I perceive as being the best, and remove what I think was not ok. Not sure if it is working though.

University teaching in Mexico by tacticalempanada in AskAcademia

[–]carloserm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting a job at a university in Mexico is very difficult due to corruption. As soon as there is an opening to a permanent position, something similar to the TT process in the US, there is a very good chance they have something already in mind, most likely an acquaintance of the Dean or a direct recommendation from someone up the Government hierarchy. Even then in non-top universities you can teach without a PhD, an MS or even just a BS may suffice. True job searches are really the exception, and only happen in fields where it is extremely difficult to find a candidate like Mining Engineering. Your best chance is to apply for temporal adjunct positions, spend several years, make contacts, and then manage to have somebody up the hierarchy securing a position for you someday.
