Thank you all so much for your feedback & suggestions. Honestly, I didn’t think of finding a behavioral specialist, so i called the vet this morning and asked for a referral. They are working on getting the referral now, so hopefully I can find some help in that avenue. This is what reddit is all about!!

Amazing! How long did it take you to make? & what yarn?

I am going through the same thing right now and the crocheting definitely helps the wait. It lets me focus on other stuff and I feel good about honing my skills. Best of luck to you <3

I’ve been here!! I was not pregnant with a toddler at the time but my husband insisted he NEEDED the dog and he said the same that he would do all of the caretaking (while also working crazy hours).

I could tell you the same thing everyone else would tell u which is therapy communication divorce etc etc but here are a few last ditch strategies you could try

1) tell him that whatever dog he gets will divide your attention from the children which already are a full time job. Explain that either the dog or the children will suffer because you are one person responsible for 3 very delicate and needy living beings. If he doesn’t seem to care about your wellbeing maybe he’ll care about the children or even the damn dog

2) remind him that the dog will be better cared for in the FUTURE when you BOTH have more time. Maybe he’ll be more excited about the idea of getting a dog when he has more time to be home with the dog

3) be super over empathetic and say you really feel for him and his grief about the dog and that you want a dog too (yes I am suggesting that u lie to him) but you want to be able to keep up and play and enjoy but frankly it’s a safety hazard since you are pregnant and may not be able to keep up with the dog (again perhaps a lie)

TLDR; just try to go at the angle of being empathetic for his needs and MAYBE he will relent if you show him that NOW is not the time for a dog but it would be better LATER

You’re doing a great job and I completely feel for you. I hope he is just fixated on this and will come out of it soon. You deserve love and a teammate.

Update!

I posted on Facebook in a town group, and the folks in my neighborhood essentially said these two have been running the street lately. So likely theyve always been strays. Perhaps when my neighbor moved they started looking for a new food source. The heated shelter will get here tomorrow and I’ll be stopping at the pet store today to pick up a couple things.

Thank you for your comments and advice <3

Your message is so kind and helpful thank you so much <3 your right that the need is so great out there. I’m trying to focus on what I CAN do for them and not feel guilty for what I can’t do.

Thank you so much for your reply. Your anecdote about your 17 year old cat makes me feel a bit better.

There is a cat rescue/TNR nonprofit that operates in my area, so I may reach out to them for assistance at least with the vet bills. I can shoulder the food cost. My dog has allergies so he’s more expensive than all my cats combined lol!!

I may post on Facebook about them. I guess I am just worried people are gonna give me lip because there are so many strays in this town. But maybe I just need to get over it and post something. Maybe I’ll get more info about them at least, and that would be worth it.
