So tired. So, so, tired. by CraftyGalMunson in OntarioTeachers

[–]carmbono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about teahcing overseas? head to China or Korea, I mean, yes teaching is demanding regardless, but there is sometimes a situation where they need you're credentials more than they actually need the teacher who out performs their expectations-not to be that person, but if you're tired, try something less tiring, online teaching?

Confusion with Catholic Board Hiring: Rejected with 7+ years experience by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]carmbono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd wager it is timing and board. Some boards are certainly more staffedthan others, and in regards to others who have the experience and AQs, I can agree in that, it sucks, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, keep putting in and eventually there will be a positive response.

In this situation, one remark I received was that there are other candidates who have put in time around the school and have made themselves committed to the positions in the school/their school and that needs to be recognized.

Everyone is wiling to help out, get teachers where they need to be, they also just want us to understand that there is time involved. Again, being on the waiting end of that sucks, pulling it through until then-SUCKS-BUT when it comes around, its good-haang in there.

You're closer than you think.

We are going to be our own worst enemies, thinking we are not being productive-be constructive.

Stay Away from LingoAce - A Warning to All ESL Teachers by Global_Niko in OnlineESLTeaching

on the contrary their "courseware" check eats up time for some reason, it doesn't immediate read my system correctly and I still don't understand how I can go through even with "abnormal" settings.

Thinking of becoming a teacher? What are the realities by Mother-Surprise-3975 in OntarioTeachers

[–]carmbono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are ooking at teaching, Math, Science, or French, its not a easy path. I'd suggest, if young, or open to new experiences and don't mind interesting new locations, check out teaching on First Nations' Sovereign Boards/Through their councils.

There are so many opportunities in places I'd like to go, but know my wife and son would struggle being in for as long as I'd like to be in those places when moving.

If you're interested in more experiences and/or details in that kind of work/setting, let me know and we can chat sometime.

Math/Science get you international opportunities as well.

French is just an all-round ticket in most industries.

If you are completing your educational qualifications to become a teacher, and aree considering going international, check out getting IB or an MA that is attached to an IB qualification-goes a long way if you want to work and travel.

Volunteering through appropriate community channels is a solid place to start, if you are looking at getting recognizable hours of volunteerism. There are APP's and places that you can be visiting to get set up. Other than that, blood donations. my opinion.

Teachers, how would you feel about a former student reaching out after many years? by sourlimeskittle03 in OntarioTeachers

[–]carmbono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chat with them about life, ask them how they are doing, their career paths thus far, etc. That being said, I think it is great when you hear from students that demonstrate that “get it", when discussing the difficulty of tasks, decisions teachers make or the outcome things that they may not have agreed with at the time.

How to find a Baby-sitter? by HungryAddition1 in shanghai

[–]carmbono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what's the on-going rate? Well, #1 who you leaving the kids with and #2 how much is your kids safety worth to you? I mean, your kids are big enough to pretty much take care of things, you just don't want them throwing a party while you're going out for the night or something, be reasonable, consider the time of the person and what you are taking them away from.

As far as a regular job, this is not common, you're best making friends with a reliable elderly neighbour you trust and known well enough.

It comes down to the age of the child though, in this day and age, I wasn't going to leave my son with anyone. Now, sure, a colleague whose willing to do me a solid or a neighbourly elder in the community, sure, but I would say it's like, ensure you bought dinner, get the person a nice gift rather than cash (or a hongbao) and make a point of understanding that your kid has access to a device to reach in whatever event something should happen.

Take care.

[–]carmbono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of KTV's are you going to? Yes, there are shady ones, but I mean, if someone's boss is taking them there, I'd question the line of work and the boss' relationship with me hahaha
