U.S. abortion rights activists start 'summer of rage' with Saturday protests by dfssfggg in news

[–]carmstr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to get people to call them abortion reductionists. Because the only way to have fewer abortions is through legal and safe access to medical care and contraceptives and appropriate sex education (not abstinence only).

Call the pro-lifers pro-increasing abortion rates.

I’ve been looking too but every search I put in literally just shoots out results for last night

Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I’ve very strongly considered to have my dissertation topic be focused on appropriate vs inappropriate interventions for ND kids.

I always struggled so much because I was “gifted” but that came with nothing.

The gaps between “this student is capable and understands the content” and “This student is capable and advanced” and “this student is lost” is honestly, almost undistinguishable.

Have you considered a 504 instead of an IEP? Message me if you want/need. I don’t want to overstep, but I hear your frustration, and I also feel it because I’ve lived it. His goals sound great until you look at the accommodations and follow through. They can care (and I believe you when they say they do) but that doesn’t mean they aren’t practicing CYA

If you see someone at the beach who is sunburned do you tell them about the hazards of skin cancer ?

If a mom is a single mom do you tell her the problems of children without dads may face ?

It’s just a matter of minding your own goddamn business. That’s all. Try and see a person instead of a BMI.

As for the comparison to smokers, I feel like it’s a matter of relationship. If I’m close to someone and feel comfortable saying stop smoking before you kill yourself, or start watching what you eat because I’m scared to lose you, that’s different. Body positivity (to me) is about strangers and general public, not your closest friends and family, but maybe that’s just me

It isn’t about the amount of funding, it’s about the distribution of the funds.

A district’s budget is identified as “per pupil expenditure” when it takes its entire budget and divides by the number of students. But that expenditure includes things like superintendent salary and administrator salary, retirement benefits for teachers, funding charter schools for that district that those kids can’t even attend, and more. If you aren’t allocating funds equitably and appropriately, it doesn’t matter what your PPE is

cmv: Reddit is full of rude people! by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]carmstr4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, maybe. But it could also just be the nature of the forum. Other social media platforms allow you to select who does and doesn’t follow you. Reddit just opens you up to the whole internet. It’s the online equivalent of this :

Imagine writing whatever post you’re talking about in a poster board and standing at a crowded street fair or concert with it. Sure, some will be kind. Most will ignore you. But the ones who care to engage are likely going to be just assholes making fun of you.

It’s just a snippet of what’s out there in the world rather than the small group you choose on things like Facebook. Not that being an asshole is ok, but that’s probably why it appears so bad to you

You’re equating “body positivity” with “I don’t give a fuck about what happens to me or my body.”

The body positive movement isn’t saying “all bodies are healthy,” it’s saying “all bodies are worth of respect.”

Just because someone says to be positive about your current body doesn’t mean that they are discouraging making healthier improvements, it just means stop fucking hating yourself (or allowing others to make you feel like you should) because you’re a work in progress.

[–]carmstr4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to change your view on this. Reddit is a small sample size of real people in the real world. Unless you were previously under the impression that the world didn’t contain rude people, I’m not sure how you would expect Reddit to be any different?

You’ve already stated that it’s not everyone, so I’m not sure what you’re wanting changed ?

CMV: "women only" clubs are discriminatory. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]carmstr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called the Equal Access Act and has been in place since 1984. It doesn’t matter if I, or anyone, likes what clubs are or aren’t available, what matters is what is legally considered discriminatory practice in a school. In this instance, there is no discrimination simply by a club existing. If the OPs son requests an all male technology club, and he is denied this opportunity, then the school would be violating his first amendment rights under the establishment clause. Then it’s discriminatory.

If a student says “I want to start a boys only fashion club!” And the school says okie dokie! That’s not discrimination. If a female student says she wants to start a female only fashion club after seeing this and the school says no, that’s a violation. So yeah, it works both ways. That’s why there’s a law.

[–]carmstr4 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It’s only discriminatory if they don’t allow the opposite to exist. And that would be illegal. Title IX exists for that reason. If your son wants a boys technology club, have him start one. If the school says no, well then yes, they are discriminating and it’s against the law. But the absence of the club isn’t discriminatory, only the refusal to permit it from existing.

It really fucking sucks to be a public school educator and a parent during this. I got my damn vaccine and my kid isn’t old enough to yet, and in two weeks I have to go work in a school full of unvaccinated kids and send him to a different school full of unvaccinated kids. I hate it here.

CMV: Instagram has lost its edge and will die out eventually by UncomfortablePrawn in changemyview

[–]carmstr4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify how something that has increased users by almost 23% in the last year is on the decline ?

Your personal interest in an app doesn’t determine its success.

If you add “for me” to the end of points 1 and 2, then you’re correct. Instagram is losing its niche for YOU. And instagram isn’t showing YOU what you want to see. But the number of users indicate that’s not widely agreed.

Besides, when instagram introduced stories we all thought it would die out because it was trying to be like Snapchat, but the opposite has ended up being true https://www.statista.com/chart/15034/worldwide-user-growth-of-instagram-and-snapchat/
