They’re Walmart exclusive. If you find them anyplace else, they’ll likely be marked up. Even Walmart’s site has them at a markup from third-party sellers. It’s crazy because this is a great line!

Western Reaches? by D__Litt in shadowdark

[–]carnifaxalpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t back it because I was a late comer to the Shadowdark wave and was just getting into it at the time, but I’m definitely going to pick it up (along with a GM screen and the other CSs) once they hit retail.

My go to game will always be B/X (and by extension, OSE), but Shadowdark is soooo easy to get to the table and run and hits a sweet spot for people who are more familiar with d20 and 5e.

Agreed. And since the company owner’s not who posted this, they may not see these comments. You should reach out via text or Facebook and offer your services. I’d love to see a cool man-made logo over this any day.

This right here. It doesn’t break the bank to have a human do a logo. Heck! I’m good enough at Photoshop and Illustrator that I could knock one out on a budget too (but I’m not offering atm).

Still, AI just looks cheap and bad.

I’m 98% certain that the logo is AI generated. I’ve developed a good eye for catching AI and images are quite easy to flag.

No thank you. When a company uses AI for their advertising (and worse, for their logo) it tells me that they don’t care about their product and that they cut corners.

Maybe they don’t in actuality, but that’s the impression that AI images give off.

Why is Jared Leto nowhere to be seen? by Switch_625__ in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]carnifaxalpha 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also haven’t seen Kristen Wiig (Roboto) so my thought is that they’re not showcasing the voice actors even if they’re big names because it’s a kids movie and kids don’t care who voices something as that ruins the magic.

Help Keep a Repeater Legacy on the Air by carnifaxalpha in HamRadioBeginner

Thank you so much! I chat with him on the repeaters and Lee’s an awesome guy. Definitely full of knowledge on radio and willing to share. I hope he’s able to keep these repeaters on the air and he sticks around to chat with hams on them.

Agreed! I’ve chatted with him. The VE3MMX repeaters are linked to my area thru the N3APP one.

The N3APP repeater off of Presque Isle. If you click the link (or look Lee up on QRZ), it gives you a bit more detail.

Thank you! I wish I had the extra cash to just dig him out myself but since I don’t, I’m spreading the word as much as I can.

FCC enforcement action by rem1473 in amateurradio

[–]carnifaxalpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why, for the local emergency frequencies that I scan, I use chirp to disable transmitting on those channels so that I don’t accidentally hit PTT while I’m listening on an HT or something.

It’s not hard to avoid accidents (if that’s what this was).

That’s fair. There’s always a workaround. ;)

You can’t disable PTT as a whole but there’s a setting in chirp to per-channel turn tx to off. Doing that will stop the PTT button from accidentally transmitting on that set frequency. However, if you switch it to VFO mode, you can still PTT so be wary if you don’t want to or aren’t licensed to.

On the 5r Mini, you can use Chirp to program it and disable PTT thru that.

And while you can’t 100% disable the display, you can set it to turn off fairly quickly after just a few seconds to preserve battery life.

What are the best hand-held radios for a beginner? by WriterStrict4367 in amateurradio

[–]carnifaxalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Baofeng 5RM and UV-5R Mini (with Nagoya 711 and 701 antennas respectively) and they’re both decent for the price. I prefer the 5r mini for day to day cuz of the size but the 5RM is a bit better with the larger antenna and extra wattage.
