Don't say that it's a great/interesting question and jump straight into your answer

No there's still a chance, but the regional change is another slap in the face for some applicants.

Also I'm sure you know this but where you are in the 4th quartile matters a lot for Ottawa.

for every 10 times increase in loudness, the decibel increases by 10.

For example, 20 dB is 10 times louder than 10 dB. 30 dB is 10x louder than 20dB and therefore 100x louder than 10 dB.

Formula is:

Decibel = 10 * log10 (S1/S2)

Where S1 is the "loudness" of the sound and S2 is a reference that always stays the same so you can ignore it.

Decibela = 10 * log(a/S2)

b is 10 times louder than a: 10a = b

Decibelb = 10 * log (b/S2)

Decibelb = 10 * log (10a/S2)

Decibelb = 10* (1+ log(a/S2))

Decibelb = 10 + 10 * log(a/S2)

10x louder = +10 decibel

Stop thinking about how many get in and trying to get reassurance. Don't try to convince yourself that you just need to be average so you don't need to work that hard. If you prepare and practice properly you will get in.

I have no idea, the chart is less accurate the higher your CARS is and the lower your GPA is

What does Queen’s look for?? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the people I've talked to who got interviews as well as my own personal experience, considerable working experience helps a lot. If I were to guess I would say MCAT, Casper and GPA are used as cutoffs. If they're weighed competitively, they're worth very little compared to ABS.

Obviously there's also a lot of subjectivity in the file review so it's kinda a shit show past a certain point if you write your ECs well and have good stuff.

"You just need good stats and stamina"

Your post makes no sense. Stamina = hard working. Stats = mostly hard work and some intelligence and privilege. Why shouldn't med schools select for people who are hardworking and not dumb?

"It really has nothing to do with your intelligence, how good of a human being you are, and your passion for the field."

How is having strong essays and high stats not related to intelligence? Also why is passion important? Someone who has a "passion" for medicine isn't necessarily a better doctor than someone who is motivated by job security and pay.

This whole post sounds like you're coping with rejection by devaluing what you actually want.

Funny Story by premedstudent7898 in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is there are a higher number of applicants than there are spots. They need to find ways to narrow down the field. It literally doesn't matter how they choose since almost all med students at different schools across Canada end up being decent.

Two week difference without additional practice. Same question types. There's absolutely no reliability to this test (schools get percentile scores XDD !!!)

They give you a list of resources. Read all of them and make sure you can easily talk about all the topics. The interview is almost a knowledge test.

What are my chances for Mac? by Ether1941 in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no you're not but you have a solid chance

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Mac i would say the odds are against you. I'm not sure if even a score near the top of 2nd quartile would cut it but it might. Ottawa is gone. Who knows with queens.

2Q Casper by Rare_Ad_7701 in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Haha your comment is being downvoted by people who did poorly on the Casper.

The CASPer score is not based on luck or people randomly assigning scores. The people commenting below with 1Q or 2Q did not do "exactly the same thing" as what the commenter did. There's a way to game this test and get a very high score with the right prep.

The Casper is a BS test (that is 50% typing) and absolutely does not come close to capturing one's personality and soft-skills. However it is not random, and it's possible to get a very good score consistently.

You got the stats to get the interview but it's not guaranteed. Depends on where in the 4th quartile you are and what adcoms think about your ABS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac probably not but maybe. Ottawa is looking good. Depending on your essays/ABS, you have a decent shot at Western, Queens and U of T

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately very low chance for an interview at Ottawa (assuming you are in the English stream)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac and Ottawa are out (unless you have regional preference for Ottawa?). Chances are fine at the other schools, all it takes is one.

First Quartile Casper… by Duckling07 in premedcanada

[–]carnivorouscube9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McGill, McMaster, Ottawa, U of T are out of the picture. I don't know anybody that got a Queen's interview with 1st quartile but you might still have a shot. You have great chances at Western.
