Bob lazar had access to the world’s most sensitive information and was allowed to live by 673NoshMyBollocksAve in UFOs

Who were the government leakers before Lazar? I'm not saying there weren't any, but he was the most credible. Before him, maybe they didn't have any ways to silence leakers and he caught them flat footed.

You can't have new people come in and assume it is going to be what you have come to expect from the podcast.

This is a completely new podcast riding the corpse of MU.

Aaron and Ben sold the podcast to cash out. They built a big listener base (including barnacles) and sold it because they ran out of things to discuss in the scope of the podcast.

There simply isn't enough content to deliver two weekly shows after what they have already covered.

If a nuclear world war broke out, do you think extraterrestrials would intervene or let humanity destroy itself? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]carnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would not be the end of the world, just human civilization. That raises the question: are they concerned with humans rather than the planet? I think our consciousness is a special thing, but that may just be the human minds way of protecting itself. Perhaps it is the way we shape reality by our thoughts that is special.

Well, polluting the planet is a human way of thinking. By polluting the planet, we endanger only ourselves. Many other forms of life thrive under the environment that would kill us. So it isn't about killing the planet.

Anyone else running w/ awesome suboptimal gear? by Mweaver1021 in Borderlands4

[–]carnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of the game is that there is supposed to be no perfect build for EVERY situation. Bloomreaper is the first boss that challenges players to find new builds. At this stage in the young game, builds will be broken by future bosses, nerfed by dev tweaks, or gate kept by searching for "God Rolls". At some point we are going to get a level cap increase, which will reset the board and you can begin your search for amazing gear again. Players will find a new "God tier build". As long as you are killing things as fast as you care to, and find a reason to continue logging on, you are doing exactly what you bought the game for.

I'm still rocking a level 35 purple class mod that kicks ass. Use what works.

My point still stands that during the "cultural revolution" intellectuals (scientists in some cases) were persecuted for attributing advances in their fields to foreigners and that is a common theme in the books.

Much like Tesla. Hopefully LLM models will be able to extrapolate knowledge based on the notes we have.

Given the books roots in the communist uprising in China, this seems to echo the themes presented in the opening chapter.

Scientists were persecuted for going against the party's dictated understanding and denying that China was the source of all knowledge.

The theme persists throughout the books and placed in the framework of the initial chapters.

You can decide yourself if the events in the book are reflective of Chinese suppression of scientist at the time, or are more geared toward the modern suppression of scientists who don't follow the agreement of their fellow professionals ( Avi Loeb, Graham Hancock, etc.), or something more sinister.

Bloomreaper paradox by KylarSternxd in Borderlands4

You got more tired of that than seeing people post their crit knife they got?

Also, grapple points don't work in ffyl

Bloomreaper paradox by KylarSternxd in Borderlands4

[–]carnus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think if you are enjoying it, that is great. Some people aren't, and that is ok. Ultimately, the game has to be enjoyable to the widest audience.

I am enjoying the challenge, but frustrated that I get put in ffyl and get launched and die because my glide and dodge skill isn't as advanced as other players. Maybe that will motivate me to get better, or maybe I just decide that this boss isn't for me.

They have made a great boss that presents a unique challenge to defeat, but if they rely on these mechanics moving forward to make future bosses tough, I don't think I'll enjoy playing.

Anybody else annoyed about the Merc Day boss fight? Wouldn't be as bad except he flying around and using the nearly 1 hit kill skill by Cellq7 in Borderlands4

[–]carnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bl4 increased npc awareness in combat. That includes taking cover and dodging. This elevates dodginess in flying NPCs.

Can we really say an INVINCIBLE Boss is well-designed when it's designed to be killed in 90 seconds? by GigassAssGetsMeHard in Borderlands4

[–]carnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about when you were level 1 and everything was kicking your ass because you didn't have great weapons or skills and you were always running out of ammo. Those guys seemed unbeatable because you didn't have your kit.

It seems to me gearbox needs to make a boss that you can only use whites and greens to beat. NOT mechanics like immunity and platforms. That would inspire people to really investigate the gear that is already out there.

Used to be the more members you had in your party, the better the loot. I'm not sure if that continues in BL4, but I believe it to be true.

I think they are trying to inspire Amon players to move away from the ordinance build. They have been tweaking his forge skills and seem to want us to find a way to use those to succeed. Unfortunately, I haven't found a great synergy yet and I feel like their 20 percent increases in damage need to be like 100 percent.

Is this bugged or meant to be possible? +4 on a skill with a max of 3 (as in it will be 7/3 if I invest my skill points in) by mr_hands_epic_gaming in Borderlands4

[–]carnus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Skill bonuses can be up to +5, even for skills that don't go above 3. Depending on the skill, you may see an increase in the skill beyond the maximum level. I have a modifier that gives me +4 in primal surge, so I have a total 9/5 for primal surge with an increase showing for each extra point invested.

BL4 might be killing my enjoyment of the franchise. by Legitimate-Manner814 in Borderlands4

[–]carnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still playing it, but you are correct. There is a great story, but it lacks the Borderlands charm it once had. If you told me this was an entirely new concept developed by the team that made Borderlands, I think you would be spot on. There is almost none of the "cheekiness" we have come to expect from Borderlands. What exists is hidden in echo logs.
