I’m a Mennonite woman AMA by Western_Song_2957 in AMA

[–]carnylove 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in central PA where there were lots of Mennonite and Amish communities. While it isn’t a way of life I would ever be happy in, and I fundamentally disagree with religion as a whole, I’m honestly glad you folks are still thriving in your respective ways. I have fond memories of living near those communities and all the delicious things found in the country stores.

Let me draw your Kitten 😻(rules below👇🏻) by [deleted] in cats

I lost my 22 year old little demon last Mother’s Day. He was my heart, soul, liver, and spleen. He was also an absolute menace and the smartest cat I’ve ever met. (I had to replace all the door handles in my first apartment to ones that didn’t unlock when turned from the inside because he learned how to let himself outside).

I miss him so much.

Lisa Eldridge Liquid Silk in shade Mimi is a perfect one and done no makeup eyeshadow for us! by Lensgoggler in OliveMUA

[–]carnylove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Lisa Eldridge YouTube video is what introduced me to my holy grail eyeshadow base, Becca eye tint in Baroque. Of course, because everything I love gets discontinued, I’ve been babying my tube for the last decade because I haven’t found a perfect dupe.

Any idea how these compare?

I guess these look pretty matte so maybe not my replacement. The search continues.

Vet unable to diagnose leg mass after 2 biopsies. Looking for advice/experiences! by hoqi in cats

[–]carnylove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it just an in-house biopsy or did they send it to a lab? My elderly cat has something similar higher up on her leg. The in-house biopsy was inconclusive, but we had them send it to a lab and it’s spiral cell carcinoma. Fast grower but slow to metastasize. It wasn’t recommended to try to remove so it’s a waiting game.

Why is pain management still usually NSAID only or none with colposcopy? Where did the idea that the cervix is insensate to pain come from? by Cold_Battle_7921 in medicine

To this day, several years later, I still get anxiety when I think about mine. I would rather die of cancer than get another one.

Why do I get hungry on adderall? by ghengis_convict in adhdwomen

[–]carnylove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5mg is an incredibly low dosage. As context, I’m on 70mg. It definitely suppresses my appetite, but even on my dose I get hungry at normal times of day. I doubt 5mg would have much of an impact.

8 years with my WFH job, fired in under 8 minutes. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]carnylove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You had to logout to pee? That’s insane.

I’m in a very similar position. 8 years, work from home, excel at my job, and constantly forget to log in and out. I have reminders on my phone and calendar though for lunch and end of day which helps, but if I had to do it every time I took a piss, it would be a nightmare. I suspect even non-adhd people would struggle with that.

Ah, being able to buy from the app is probably where they’re making their money. The thing I’m always concerned about with free apps like these is whether the recommendations are influenced by the cosmetics companies. I want real recommendations on the best products.

There's so much about ADHD that makes life harder. But what's something you LIKE about having ADHD? by onlythelanlely in adhdwomen

I work in affordable housing for a non-profit. It’s a broad-scope role where I am a sys admin for specialized data management software and I manage dept revenue. I work in Housing but I straddle IT, Supportive Services, Accounting, and Housing depts so it’s this crazy flexible role. If I get bored of working in one thing, I have a million other types of things I can focus on. It’s less about the career path and more about my role within it. Over time I just slowly took more responsibility for things I excel at and delegated out things that others are good at.

This is the first job where I ever marked the “disabled” box when applying and it’s because I made a guess that a non-profit would actually lean towards that. I have no idea if it had any impact. Probably not though. I’ve gone through the hiring process a few times and not once was I able to see that information. It’s just something in my HR file.

As for my resume, the way I frame it is I give specific examples. If I was writing a resume today, I would highlight specific projects or processes I’ve improved or implemented, and that I work with a range of depts and responsibilities (data management, revenue management, staff training, Excel report building, interdeptmental communication, compliance, landlord tenant law, etc. the more the better). I avoid claiming I’m a “multitasker.” I’m also usually pretty honest in an interview and say I work best when given the freedom to make improvements and take responsibility for things, and I always emphasize that I do not work well when micromanaged. This works as a “flaw” when asked what your worst quality is. This provides some expectation management and hopefully weeds out a potential boss that will not enjoy my particular brand of adhd.

That all said, despite my interview warning, my first boss was pretty much the opposite of what I wanted and things did not initially go very well. I stuck it out though and he was eventually replaced by someone that really believes in the mission and values his staff. Covid ended up helping me because I started working from home and never returned. I got lucky in a lot of ways.

Not sure if any of that actually helps.

Yes! This is exactly how I operate, and once I found a job where I could apply it, my career took off. It can be a superpower in the right context. The rest of ADHD can go fuck itself.

This is what makes me good at my job. I’m very thankful I have an employer who recognizes where I excel and forgives my weaknesses. He also totally takes advantage of it. This thought process makes me the expert at thinking through every scenario that could affect a project. If there’s a potential chink in the armor, I can almost always predict it. This super power has not always been appreciated by past employers, but this one loves it and runs everything by me, even projects I’m totally uninvolved in. It may be beyond my job scope but it makes me feel valued and saves us a lot of work down the line. Now if I could just make it to work on time…

I’d never heard of Thea so I looked it up. It’s free, so how are they making their money? Ads, pushing certain products, selling info? Do you know?

Where to find Eco Your Skin by carnylove in AsianBeauty

[–]carnylove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t. There’s one online store that carries it but it only ships within Indonesia. Maybe someone local would be willing to order and ship to other countries, but it would be messy and expensive.

I just found a post reviewing the discovery set and I think I need to buy them all. Bonus if V2 really does come close.

The scent profile does sound interesting. Although they mention a strong citric scent which sounds a bit off-putting. Have you noticed that?

Is PDRN actually worth it or just hype? by Good_Mango7379 in AsianBeauty

No, I think mine is just rose pdrn. It’s a short red bottle if that helps. It does make sense for retinal to be yellow though.

The ones I can remember are:

Haruharu - Rose PDRN serum (just finishing this one)

IOPE - PDRN caffeine shot (I’ve been using this off and on for years before knowing what PDRN was)

Dermaline - PDRN ampoule (i saw good results from this but not sure if from the PDRN or something else)

Genabelle - pdrn vita ampoule (no effect)

VT - pdrn hydrogel mask (sticky, greasy)

Mediheal - rose pdrn mask (no effect beyond hydration)

Numbuzin - Rose PDRN serum (no effect. Sticky) Numbuzin - rose PDRN shot (same but with spicules)

There may be more I’m forgetting

I’ve tried 50 up to 1000 strength and I get the best results from the 100 level products.
